Panthers Sign Avant to 1 Year Deal

Recommended Posts

Listen, I want for Cam to absolutely tear it up as much as the next guy but if we ran a fast paced no huddle offense the defense would see the field a lot more often and would get worn down and give up more points. I guess we could switch to that strategy if we wanted to but having long drives and keeping the defense off the field worked last season for the most part so I seriously doubt Rivera will switch strategies now. We still need a home run threat though, which is why getting either Lee/Cooks/OBJ in the draft is so crucial in my opinion.

Shouldn't we try to mix strategies? Running the clock is good, but sometimes you need to pick up the pace. The opponents defense catches on pretty fast.

Wrong. Steve Smith with one arm and on one leg is better than anything we currently have by far. He may have been old, but he still commanded respect from defenses. Each of these "awesome" signings only put up the numbers they did because they were playing in extremely deep and talented WR corps. These guys individually are very unimpressive, and combined without a true number one are pathetic.

This current group is nothing to write home about.

You could also argue that these guys only put up the numbers they did because they played behind very talented guys ahead of them..  If they had been on less talented squads they might have gotten more attempts and put up bigger numbers. These guys put up similar numbers to who we had and didn't have the benefit of playing with Cam.  Look at how Ginn flourished which is exactly what will happen to Underwood for example.

I think we should but I'm not Shula or Rivera so it doesn't matter what I think. If we start to struggle next season because of our offensive strategy I will be the first guy wanting to switch or mix up strategies.

Agree with this.

Our WRs aren't world-beaters. However, they all measure well with Cam's abilities. They're big. They have some speed. Can adjust to passes due to their experience.

May not be MUCH better, on the whole, than we were at this point last year at the WR position, but we are DEFINITELY better.

I don't hate Gettleman, I don't know the man. I don't agree with some of his decisions, but I don't hate him. Do I want a WR? Yep and that isn't all Gettleman's fault, but he's in the process of joining those who failed to build around Cam unless he can nail the draft.

Andrew Luck- Reggie Wayne, TY Hilton, Hakeem Nicks, Coby Fleener

RG3- Pierre Garcon, Desean Jackson, a 1k yard rusher in Alfred Morris

Andy Dalton-Aj Green, Marvin Jones, Gresham, Eifert, Giovani Bernard

Russell Wilson- you can say his WR corps is as bad as ours but If Percy Harvin is healthy he's a major threat and he also has a legitimate 1K yard rusher.

We have players plenty capable of being consistent 1k yard rushers, we don't have an oline for them to run behind.

Get luck all the weapons you want, he ain't getting farther than his freebie divisional title if he doesn't stop throwing atrocious picks in the playoffs.

RG3 has brought the Redskins to a worse record than when they actually drafted him.  No defense on that team either.

Andy Dalton should not be on this list, he isn't consistent and has almost no upside.  If it weren't for his weapons he'd be universally regarded as a complete bust.

Wilson and CK were fortunate to be drafted to previously established teams with dominant defenses and weapons already in place.

Cam got drafted to the worst offense of the modern NFL era who had a GM throwing superstar contracts out to good players. If you want every position addressed immediately build a time machine and get Hurney canned before the lockout.  I wish you the best of interceptions.

When you try to have a legitimate debate with aceboogie, when you push him into where he goes off a tangent from what's being debated, he will ignore you and swipe it under the rug.

The WRs we have now fit into what we are trying to do offensively better, and for much cheaper. Get the madden ovr mentality out of Yalls head.

Exactly.

What implications?... We won't draft a receiver now?

Pretty much. Or instead of 2 we only take 1. Or instead of grabbing a better talent early we decide to wait a few rounds.

In a vacuum it's a nice signing, and veterans are of course important to have around, I just hope it doesn't mean we pass on a young, high potential player or two.

It's probably less an implication and more my own inference, since we normally keep six WRs and I doubt we'd cut any of these three.

I'm a Panther fan which is why I'm against paying a guy 100 million dollars to be a game manager, which is the salary Cam will demand.

Hey may demand that but I dunno if DG will pay him that. I guess we'll see but even if he does, will that not be the reason DG is surrounding him with players that do not need to get paid much but are effective in helping the team get wins?

They could drop Pilares, McNutt or King in a millisecond and wouldnt have to do it untill final cuts.
