Panthers Sign Avant to 1 Year Deal

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's in any way a stretch to suggest the new crop can be equal to the former if not better as a whole. Then we get to draft.

Right now as it sits it's not even a debate.

Steve Smith

Brandon Lafell

Ted Ginn Jr

Domenik Hixon

Or

Jerricho Cotchery

Jason Avant

Tiquan Underwood

Marvin Mcnutt

Come on man stop it

I promised myself I was going to sit back and not comment. But I can't help it. You guys are like the damn little aliens from Toy Story and Gettleman is the claw. Our WRs right now are not better than last year, not even a smidge. Steve Smith is a border line Hall of Famer, Lafell is better than Avant, drops and all and Underwood ain't Ginn. I don't mind all the blind optimism, but come on man can we at least be honest with ourselves??

You are the one that has so much negative to say about the whole offseason that it is you wouldn't or can't admit that Gettleman might actually have a decent plan.

Underwood is not a returner but as a receiver he actually is better than Ginn.  He is every bit as fast and has surer hands.  He is only going to get better.  He is going to be a big surprise this year.  Cotchery is better than LaFell and that isn't even close.

As for Smitty, he may be a hall of famer but he is a long way past his prime and was going to be a slot receiver this year which is exactly what Avant is at this point.  Sure Smitty was a lot better a few years ago but would he have been better this year?  And the answer is not that clear or definitive.

Right now the guys we have added as a group might be equal to what we lost at a fraction of what it would have cost us to keep who we had.

If you want others to be honest with themselves how about taking a long hard in the mirror first.

Can't believe people still find ways to complain about this signing. Sigh.

See you guys get confused and your panties get into a bunch. Nobody is attacking the signing. I'm attacking the notion that the WR group right now is better than last year. If you believe that nonsense then I guess we won't be drafting a WR because we sure as hell didn't draft one last year.

Nah I don't agree with that. Wr and OT are still tied for most needed position.

well considering we have three veteran Wide-outs albeit not great ones, and zero NFL experienced LT's I would say that is an incorrect assumption you have

I love the panthers just as much as you do buddy, but you have your Homer glasses on tight. You find me one non panther fan that will tell you this bunch is better than last years. It's not. He still has the draft to improve that but don't forget he didn't take a WR last year with that bunch. So if this one is so much better, why bother drafting a WR? Went 12-4 with those guys.

I don't know how to feel about this. Beggars can't be choosers, but still. Why not wait until after the draft?

Because Gettleman's offseason strategy is to patch up positional needs the best he can with FA's, which sets you up to pick the BPA in the draft. It's the same strategy he used last year.
