Jason Avant Visiting Panthers Monday

Functionally we had an offense that was one of the worst in the league, and in my opinion is was form the person calling the plays, not the players. We basically had a MIA number three receiver until Ginn last year, and still manage to take giant steps backwards. I personally think Smith was still a great receiver last season, despite his numbers and injury. I also think he would have been a asset if actually moved to role that didn't involve carrying our passing offense on his back.

The guys we signed weren't signed by anyone else for a reason. Our players we let walk were signed immediately by good (possibly contender) teams for a reason, whether you can see it or not. I don't think you can dispute the Patriots or Baltimore know how to win. Paying Smith to leave doesn't help our cap. Overpaying players doesn't help our cap. Creating holes in our roster doesn't help our chances to win.

Also, we didn't do pretty well. Our passing attack was the worst I've seen in years. It's the sole reason we didn't progress in the playoffs. Our 12-4 record (that some are now disputing, because it helps there arguments) was from our defense, and Cam Newton making the offense work, somehow, someway.

We still have the defense, we still have Cam, and we haven't drafted yet. Slow your role Chicken Little.

Regardless of what you think, our offense was efficient. It was never going to get better with the talent we had last year so we blew it up and are bringing in new guys. Nothing wrong with that. Shuffle the deck and see what chemistry you can build with new guys. Gettleman has acknowledged that the offense needs to be addressed. We brought in a new offensive consultant for Christ's sake. We are making strides under the CAP we have, and we aren't doing a bad job based on what we can afford. So wait until training camp before you declare: 12-4 was a fluke! Shula sucks! We gots no receivers! Etc.

Failing to convert two 4&1's at the goal line was a pretty big factor in the playoff loss as well. Defense also had some big mistakes.

We also have a much downgraded offensive line, and receivers. I hope Cam doesn't get broken this year because of it.

Efficient, you mean time of possession? I get that was our only redeeming statistic last year, but it's not that important. Other teams had really good offenses, and really good time of procession. Last season after about week eight our efficiency in the redzone started to suffer. Shula creativity, or lack of, started to show.

Our cap was bad, but made worse by Gettleman franchising Hardy. There were other teams in much worse situations than ours, and arguably had better off-season signings. And our 12-4 record I think was legitmate, and should have been better. I was alluding to others posts about our record being suspect, and that next season we'll take a step back, but only because we shouldn't have been 12-4 in the first place.

Which is why I'm really hoping we stag some offensive lineman in the draft, and somehow come out with a legit receiver.

15 drops

7 drops

Newton

Glennon, Foles, etc

$6,416,666 cap hit in '14

$3,625,000 cap hit in '14*

..... & those are much, much bigger gaps

*added $1,000,000 for Avant. His hit won't be any bigger than that in '14 if he signs here.

Does that include Smith's cap hit that we'll be taking this year?

You would flunk journalism school the way you misrepresent someone's words. I didn't say I'm trying to help anybody understand anything. I said I keep telling you people that I don't give a fug what you or anybody else thinks about my opinions. Now you can take those words and do what you want with them, but just as a friendly reminder I don't give two fugs. Mmk pumpkin?

If you don't give a fug what people think about your opinions, why in the hell do you post them on a message board? Honest question, not even being a smartass

Not excited at all about Avant. I would rather the plan be we stop signing 3rd Wr and look to fill the other WR'S spots in the draft. I hope these FA WR signing aren't taking away the idea of drafting Wr's in the draft.

He didn't. Olsen did.

Olsen, our best tight end, our fabled true number one receiver last year. Olsen had slightly more yards (71), but played all 16 games. Olsen also managed a grand total of six touchdowns. I don't think his life will be easier next season when he's doubled on every down.
