I remember us having a guy like that once. He was a valuable contributor and helped us won games.

He's a coach now.

You're right the two are similar in what they bring to the table. The difference is RP was just a piece, we still had smitty in his prime and moose around him. You need a guy like Avant, I 100% agree with that. But what you also need is a Moose and a Smitty. We had those guys even when running the football was the focus. We need to find those guys.

You think they need a guy like Avant but you're complaining about Avant coming to visit?  The other guys you're talking about aren't available right now, they have to look for those guys in the draft.

To get a group of receivers that don't negatively affect our cap in the future, but can still positively contribute right now. Are you really this dense?

There's no point. People like him are just idiotic/unreasonable/need to have everything now type of people. They will sit here and bash the team all offseason because they have nothing else to entertain them in life. Then if we exceed expectations they can say "I was just being a realist and I'm glad we exceeded expectations. If we have even one more loss than last year they will come scream "I TOLD YOU SO". It's the ultimate cop-out. THey hedge their stance well. They are also very clueless about football and the business behind the scenes of the NFL. THey also think they know more than coaches/gms who have made a living doing it. All of their experience is from Madden, that's all they know. I just try to ignore them or have fun pointing how how stupid their arguments are. Good way to kill time at work. They usually just blow their own points apart without realizing it.

Yea because you can only have so many Avants on the team before you're an arena football team. I'm not convinced that Gettleman is drafting a WR as high as some of you believe. I think he should, but I'm not counting on it. WR position needed to be upgraded last season and he took 0. You don't have to let everyone go to upgrade a position.

You don't know me or my life so don't pretend to. I don't have to know more than Dave Gettleman, but he does have to know more than Ozzie Newsome.

I agree, I don't really think all these receivers will be on the opening day roster though.  I'm just saying there's no point in complaining about a signing like Avant in early April.  It does nothing to prevent them from finding a top end receiver or a starting tackle because those guys aren't available now.

That's true, but what else are we going to talk about? Cam's socks? I'm just not sure they put a lot of value into the position.

I hear you, we'll see in May.  I would be SHOCKED if one of the first 2 picks wasn't a receiver (or te) but who knows how the draft will fall.

I would feel a lot better if we weren't picking at 28. There are a lot of things that can before us, as well as teams trading back into the first round.

There's also a lot of receivers.  I think the tendency here is to look at the draft order and panic because we envision EVERY team who could conceivably use a WR drafting one in the first round in some sort of mass conspiracy against the Panthers.  I think the reality is closer to everyone knowing WR is deep and several teams waiting on WR in favor of other positions.
