Jason Avant Visiting Panthers Monday

Not excited at all about Avant. I would rather the plan be we stop signing 3rd Wr and look to fill the other WR'S spots in the draft. I hope these FA WR signing aren't taking away the idea of drafting Wr's in the draft.

We are going to have more number 3 and 4s than anyone in the NFL.

Seriously though, Avant may not be the most exciting receiver but if you want a guy that will catch it he is pretty good at that.

What was our overall offense ranked again, and our passing offense?

We should have let Hardy walk, and kept our best receiver, and signed a better one this off-season. We can cut many players and look beyond this year on how it affects our cap situation.

By saying we should have let Hardy walk to keep Smitty, you have proven that you are the worst and least knowedgable poster on the board.....congratulations.

do want.

he's as solid a possession receiver as you will find. dude catches everything and he's tough. he's not flashy and he isnt a TD machine, but he's reliable and a good target for cam.

we aren't going to find a #1 in FA, but we probably will in the draft. there's not a lot that's had me feeling good about this offseason so far, but if we sign avant i think we'll be on the way to having cam better and more reliable targets than last year.

What the Madden Generation on this board does not understand is that Gettleman's MAIN focus this offseason is to get us out from under the Cap Hell that Hurney left us with.  This is a multiple season objective.

In order to achieve this (and set the Panthers up for long term success) he is going to methodically rid us of the shitty contracts.  In doing so, he is going to play the same patchwork game that he did last season.

Not to mention that this year's FA class of WR's pretty much SUCKED.

give cam some fuggin targets that can hold on to the ball instead of dropping then consistently and he's gonna get them in position to score. we can pick up a dynamic big playmaking WR or two in the draft and have them join targets that cam can depend on to catch the ball and move the chains.

Our team features our defense. Our offense intends to extend drives, eat clock, run the ball, and convert when needed.

So far, cotchery and avant fit those roles, especially with great hands and blocking. The one word I am looking for is RELIABLE. Something Cam didn't have last season, with lafell and Ginn who dropped a ton, and a short aging guy who sure had his drops as well.

Olsen, cotchery, avant. That's a reliable group. Our fireball will come in the draft (3rd round is still considered a high pick on WR, with it being tremendously deep)

Younger-yes.....Better - not so sure about that.......Lafell is also more expensive.

Lafell is definitely better, the numbers back that up. Lafell doesn't suck. The problem with Lafell is that he flashes so much potential that it frustrates people when he disappears. I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut by the patriots, and I wouldn't be surprised if he got 1k yards and 10tds.

Lafell doesn't fit what we are trying to do, especially at his price. You wana pay lafell and Ginn what they got elsewhere? No thanks

Just because you don't understand it, does not mean there is no plan.

That is why Gettleman is paid a nice salary to evaluate talent....and you are scraping by in a menial job and posting on a message board.

No my job is to support a team that I hope is making the right decision to win. I also have the right to question some of the decision if I don't understand the why.

    • his height, size and arm will forever cause problems and limitations...that is what it is.  I think to a degree, the law of averages is just coming into play a bit with him.  So as he plays more and more, you just flat out get the decent days mixed in too.  Which is just going to happen.
    • Good point. He's definitely better in 10-15 yards. I think that's his biggest improvement. But he wasn't 3-10 +15, he was 3-7, with at least one drop (minor but still). And with multiple passes at 14 yards completed. This passing chart doesn't look like at By one, lol. He threw more "deep" passes than Mahomes (NOT comparing him to Mahomes in a skill way lol), or at least more beyind 10 yards.
    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
