Why we may not need a "No.1", and can draft impact WRs later in this deep class

I'm not going to read ALLL THAT just to hear why we MAYYBE may not when we deff do. If it were shorter I'd read it, but for now I'll just stick to the far more obvious reasons.

A great powerful target for Cam to rely on in future years.

It probably took you longer to type that than to read a few short paragraphs you people bitch when the op is short and to the point then people bitch because he typed too much why are you even on a message board...lol

If you really think about it alshon broke out this year. He was very average before this year. Dez was the same thing he didn't really hit his stride until year 3. No one knew who Demaryius Thomas until peyton came to town. Most guys take 2-3 years to develop. Calvin johnson only got 756 yds in his rookie season. He didn't become THE calvin johnson until year 4.

I just wanted to add that hardly ANY of even the most elite recievers made it to 1,000 yards their first season, AJ green is the only one who has that out of those I think and barley does at that.. It takes a while for recievers to really make an impact, and I am not just talking about recieving yards, I am talking about contributing to winning, which includes more than just yards. Smitty for example was an excellent blocker.

Basically what I am saying is that, knowing how the huddle thinks, everyone needs to calm down an stop expecting a reciever in the first round, or any round to come in right away and be a game changer, it could happen but rarely happens that way and I know that is what the huddle is expecting.

Kennan Allen did

I don't think many people are saying that we flat out can't find impact players in the later rounds.

But it's not something that we should simply expect to happen, and heading into the final year of our franchise quarterback's contract, I really wish we had a little more going for us than just the hope that we can possibly find immediate offensive contributors in the draft.

As for needing or not needing a #1, we simply need playmakers, I don't care what number is beside their name.

Alshoj broke his hand and missed a good part of the season in his rookie year. He played well before that. Might not have broken 1k if he had stayed healthy but proved he was worth a 2nd round pick in his first year I thought (but I'm admittedly biased).

I get your point.  Since Gettleman is a scouting guru I trust the process and am excited to see where the chips fall.  Also Harry Douglas was better than pretty good in my opinion.  He was very impressive when given the opportunity. Pretty much the opposite of Lafell when Smith was out.

For every 1 WR who becomes a star picked in mid-late rounds there are dozens of others who become nobody. I don't want to have to count on mid rounders and hoping we get lucky. We should draft the best WR available in the first unless Lewan or Ebron is there.

I disagree, Calvin Johnson has always been Calvin Johnson.  The others I fully agree with though

Yes, sometimes it takes a few years for receivers to "hit their stride", but Bryant, Johnson, Green, Hilton, Gordon and Allen (among a few others) were still impressive their rookie years.  My point is that we should be patient to allow receivers to hit their stride, while taking what we can get along the way.

The general public may not have known who Demaryius Thomas was pre-Manning, but people in football circles certainly knew who he was, and that's why he was drafted in the first round. Of course no one knew that he was absolutely going to be a beast, but they certainly knew it was possible (much like with Alshon Jeffery and Josh Gordon).  You have to keep in mind that Thomas was hurt his rookie season and eased into his role slowly (partially due to his injury) during his second year (with a non-throwing The Golden Calf of Bristol). That kind of stunted his growth, for lack of a better term, but by year three he was set to take off.

It took me about 20 seconds to post that so, probably not.
