Fluff piece on the LSU duo by Max Henson of panthers.com. Hmmm. That's an idea

im confused about landry as well. watch his film and hes a 1st round lock. his underwear numbers 3rd-5th rounder. at the start of the draft machine, landry was a top 5 prospect. beckman was early third, then he shot up and passed landry. guru mike still has landry as a top five WR, so ......... the job of a WR is get open and catch the ball, landry did that very well in college. the projections are whats in question for me.

Those WRs you mentioned have size--Landry is 5'11"--a speed WR needs uhhhh, what is the word I am looking for...

A 4.8 is a red flag. He may have picked a bad day to have a bad day. He can catch, have a good IQ, etc. , but if he ain't open,he ain't gettin' the ball.  His speed out of the break, body positioning, hands, etc are bigger factors, but aren't people assuming he has those characteristics because he has overcome what might be a speed issue?  Speed is part of the puzzle, and it is measured in the 40.  That is why scouts and coaches sit at the 40 in Indy every February pointing time pieces at nothing.

The biggest mistake anyone in talent evaluation can make is comparing a player to another player and projecting success or failure on that other player's accomplishments or failures.  I am not ready to assume that Landry has an above average football IQ or that he can get off the LOS--he has never had to either on the NFL level. So if the one measurable is bad, there is reason for concern.

A final thought--beware of a WR who was successful in college as the #2.  (Bryant, Clemson is another one).  They did not get the focus of the defense backs.

To be fair, Landry is 5'11 and 1/2".  If you look at him, he did miss a little time out of the blocks, in addition to pulling a hammy. Boldin is only a half a finger taller, and Hines Ward maybe a tenth and a half faster.  And, yes, the 40 is overrated.

At least give him some doubt until his pro day.

They are both 5'11. I would want both if one of them was over 6'... Of the two, I rather have OBJ. Landry can be replaced with any receiver, OBJ is more dynamic and has speed and ok size. If Landry was say, 6'2-3. Then I would be all for it, but having two WR's under 6' while one is slower, I would not want.

Watching the film, he looks fast.  It simply scares me to think that the speed of the game might overtake him.  To be honest, I just looked at the combine # and it sorta tainted my opinion.  I did not know about the hammy.

We are all grasping for scraps to determine who is going to be good and who is going to bust.  The GMs can't even do it---I think they are (to support your point) trying to measure stuff that cannot be.

One more question.  If he runs a 4.7ish at the pro day, would you want him in round 2?

I don't think that will happen.  I am going to predict 4.54

I'm curious to see how both do during their pro day April 9th.

Man I've been waiting for that day for so long. To think that it'll be yet another month after that before the draft actually happens... I'm not liking this schedule change one bit.

I'm not gonna lie to you. If I'm looking at Landry and let's say Jordan Matthews, DaVante Adams or Donte Moncrief in the second, Landry would probably be the last one among them if he ran 4.71 again.   If all those guys are gone, I would probably pick JaWuan James at tackle (and might pick him anyway).

To be honest I am hoping that Benjamin slips to us in the second, but it's probably a long shot.

In any event, I don't really want Landry before the third round.  If we picked OBJ in the first, and if Landry would still be there in the third, the thought of the duo together again would be very tantalizing indeed.

I really do not envy the job Gettlemen has ahead of him.  This is mind-boggling.  WRs are so hard to gauge.

I read a lot about how the pro day doesn't really influence the draft as much as we like to think it does.  Not sure if that's true, but if production trumps stats then both of these guys will go high.

I would prefer OBJ, simply because he's more dynamic after the catch.  Love them both though.
