Fluff piece on the LSU duo by Max Henson of panthers.com. Hmmm. That's an idea

40 times isn't everything. Keenan Allen ran a 4.71.

One player, one season vs how many slow WRs who failed to make it in the NFL?. This is a speed game.

Still, a 4.71 (Allen) is a bit faster than a 4.77 (Landry's official time).

There were 12 DEs at the combine that ran a 4.77 or faster.    12.

Jerry Rice ran a 4.71.  Good hands, solid routes, and the ability to separate are what make a receiver great.

My point is this:  Slow WRs usually do not succeed in the NFL.  Sure, you can find one who managed to defy the odds through precision and work ethic, but Landry is going to command a day 2 draft pick.  I am not excited about drafting a guy who ran a 40 time slower than Rice (4.77) based on a small population of WRs who run a 4.77 and experience NFL success.

To put it in perspective, Kareem Martin, DE, UNC--6'6", 272 lbs. ran a 4.72.  He had the 8th fastest time for DEs at the combine.

Well thank god teams don't draft all their guys based on 40 times. Guarantee he will run faster at his pro day.

If you are going to judge Landry on his sub par 40 time at the combine then it would help to remember that he was injured and did it anyway.  I'd take especially in the third.  This double dip from LSU has had my attention for a week or two now.

He will--I have no doubt., and I assure you that good teams do consider WR speed pretty important..  I watched one of the 40's on NFL network and he seems to have a problem at the start then another hitch or something around the 30. Tell me if you see it--

I am not against him, but slow WRs tend to not do as great as the faster ones do--on the other hand, the 4.28 guys tend to disappoint as well. Jarvis is not a 6'4" 225 lb WR--he is 5' 11.5--that is 2 and a half inches shorter than Keenan Allen.

I just do not want our hope at WR to be some guy who runs a 4.8 40 yard dash.  But I agree, he has speed, just seems to be a problem getting out of the blocks.

If Landry could be somewhat like Boldin then this scenario would be pretty great. I have my reservations though. Boldin IMO is just so undervalued because he doesn't possess elite speed. Yet the guy continues to ball out and make plays over defenders. If Landry can be Boldin-esque I have no issues with his 40 time.
