McNabb weighs in on our lack of a threat at WR (via D. Newton)

let me be clear. The only one worth keeping imo was SS & we pretty much paid him extra $$ to LEAVE. But my question Still remains unanswered. Money aside, what makes them better/more productive players?

We did not pay him extra money to leave.

How bout this. They are not grossly overpaid. They will provide similar production for far less money. Money that can later be used to sign actual young proven superstars like Cam and Luke.

The "weapons" crowd really likes to ignore the fact that the money actually does have to come from somewhere and that there are ramifications past the upcoming season.

I think it's a bit early to assume they'll produce the same. Jericho was a number three, his production was largely from the attention given to Pittsburgh's other receivers. Tiquan has been in the league for five seasons, and has only totaled just over a 1000 yards.

McNabb knows what he's talking about. It won't be until we go 6-10 next season that he fans see it as well.

I am trying to bookmark a bunch of these threads and make note of who is saying what. I wished I would have done so last year and the previous year but I will make sure to do it this year.

Much--not all--of the folks taking the approach that we don't need a no. 1 WR or that we can go into the season with rookies WRs (the best of which will be the 6-8th WR selected) or that we really don't need an offense that produces...are the SAME individuals who after VICTORIES would complain about the offense not producing points/yards. The same posters in game threads b*tching about Cam not moving the ball through the air efficiently enough for their liking were the same ones that never wanted to do anything about the lack of talent at WR in the offseason prior to the season.

I have no problem with a philosophy of "defense and running game" and those who subscribe to it. What we should all have a problem with is those that advocate for this tactic in March/April, then creating threads in October entitled: "What's wrong with our offense?" or "I am tried of Cam not being able to figure out Rob Ryan" after a 20-14 game.

And those are the games that we win.

the poo flingers rule this board until august every year.  nothing but the same four or five people posting about how we're going 0-16 because gettleman didn't draft according to their personal big board tacked to their bedroom wall next to their anime wall scroll.

da fuq is that?

So, what are you suggesting? That we overlook our need to get weapons because one day we'll have to pay for them?  Keenan Allen, T.Y. Hilton, and Josh Gordon all had outstanding seasons last year.  Justin Blackmon would have, had he not tanked it. Keenan Allen and Josh Gordon didn't even play a full season.  Neither did Cordarelle Patterson as a starter.

I have been harping on Denarius Moore for months now, and I am sure that we'll probably be able to pay him modestly if we were able to acquire him.  I don't understand this "'weapons' crowd" thing.

Gronk

Nobody last year (Harvin moving forward)

Pitt wasn't good but Antonio Brown

Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb

Gronkowski is a tight end (like Olsen). The question is about #1 wide receivers.

As to the rest, if I'm an opposing DC the night before a game, and those are the names I have to worry about, I'm sleeping pretty easy.

Actually, I was partially agreeing with you. But I don't know why I quoted you.

McNabb certainly knows what he is talking about. But I wouldn't necessarily think we are going 6-10 next season either.

I expect our defense to carry us to a better record than that.

The question was big time playmaking receiving options not #1 receivers. If you're a DC and you're sleeping easy rather than preparing for guys (Brown and Nelson) who combined for over 2800 yards and 16 TDs last year I imagine you won't be the DC very long.

Also yes Gronk is a TE, no he's not like Olsen.
