McNabb weighs in on our lack of a threat at WR (via D. Newton)

We can only hope that one day we will reach the elite level of Daniel Snyder lead teams.

Not saying that, necessarily. I'm just saying, every good team has at least ONE big time playmaking receiving option. We have none. Zero. We have two guys who can catch passes, sure. Unless we draft a guy who can come in and start right away and be big time, ala AJ Green, we're in trouble.

To all the gettlehaters, I believe you are going to be served a big steaming portion of gettlecrow. How u think that you all know better than a guy who has been involved in football for most of his life and has been paid for it for years as well is beyond me. Gettleman is not an idiot. He knows what he's doing and he's sticking to his plan which hopefully includes staying competitive while overcoming cap hell. Now go get your China and finest silverware out of storage. You will certainly be needing it in the next 1 to 3 years.

The point in trying to make is this.

Our receivers last year were poo. Steve Smith as much as it pains me to say isn't Steve Smith anymore. Hell, by his own admission he's not a #1 anymore. He's not a guy you need to double cover because he can burn you over the top and he's not a guy you need to gameplan around anymore. Another year on his body isn't going to make that better all of a sudden. LaFell will be entering year five and hasn't done anything at this point to warrant any kind of support for him staying. Tedd Ginn is fast but drops a lot. He's at least decent and I wish he stayed, but not for a fraction of what he ended up getting.

So here we are with a bunch of jags for receivers, and yet people are going crazy because we let then go and didn't bring anyone in. The offseason isn't over yet, and there is no doubt in my mind that our receiving corps can be better by the time the season starts.

Could our receivers be worse than last year? Yes, absolutely.

But they could also be a lot better. And the guys we let go weren't going to just get better magically.

Ok and the point im trying to make is replacing Jags with Jags does not help anything I did not like lafell and I acknowledge steve needed to be moved to the slot 2 seasons ago and regarding ginn he didnt do jack poo at wr up until he played with carolina. Ginn looked like a completely different receiver last year than he had before I think he would have had more success had he stayed another year but we'll agree to disagree on that. King and mcnutt could very well break out and be the wrs we've been looking for all along chances are slim though extremely slim

I've asked someone else this & in gonna ask you the same. You're 1000000% sure those guys will be better for us based off of WHAT?!!!..........ill wait

When Gettleman cut Smith, He released a press statement that said,

Over the next few months we will have the opportunities afforded by free agency and the college draft to improve our roster. We also have young players who will get an opportunity. I have great trust in our evaluation process.

After this past season, He has great reason to trust that evaluation process. You wanted evidence fangirl.

what specifically makes Both Tiquan & Jerricho better than Smitty & Lafell. Give me evidence of THAT. Idk what made u go find some random obvious quote that has nothing to do with the argument at hand.

How bout this. They are not grossly overpaid. They will provide similar production for far less money. Money that can later be used to sign actual young proven superstars like Cam and Luke.

The "weapons" crowd really likes to ignore the fact that the money actually does have to come from somewhere and that there are ramifications past the upcoming season.

Who is that in New England?

How about Seattle?

Pittsburgh?

Green Bay?

let me be clear. The only one worth keeping imo was SS & we pretty much paid him extra $$ to LEAVE. But my question Still remains unanswered. Money aside, what makes them better/more productive players?

Cotchery and Tiquan will be better than Smith and Ginn if we want them to be. It might not be in the best interest of the team to do that though because of TK and MM or a rookie draft pick. There is such a thing called statistical analysis so if you want to do that by all means do it but don't expect me to do it for you.

It is funny. They act like the Panther's lack of passing offense can't get worse.

Trust me it CAN get worse. For all we know, we might field the worst collection of WR in NFL history.

For all we know, we might field a bunch of Victor Cruz (not likely)

But we can get worse.

The wait it out approach has worked so far... no reason to steer away from the plan now.

Guys like Sidney Rice and Miles Austin are still out there, and once they realize that their value isn't as high as perceived DG is probably going to come in and scoop one up.

I'm also under the impression that the Panthers may do the double-double dip with they way they are attacking the secondary in free agency. WR in the first and fourth rounds and OT in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

The only way I'll legitimately be worried going into this year is if we don't go WR in round one.

Only way I wouldn't be mad at a position other than WR would be if Lewan falls or the top 6 WRs are taken before our pick (in which case we'd need to go corner).

It's a complete mystery. We could end up with the 2 best unknown receivers ever in King and McNutt, or we could end up with 100 dropped passes next year. I'm not worried but I'm very anxious.
