Dude, you obviously haven't researched this guy.  He runs good routes, has great hands, high-points the ball, and reportedly stops and starts on a dime better than some have ever seen (and, yes, several analysts/scouts actually said this).  Dane Brugler of CBS sports likened him to a video game player in so many words:

I have done a good bit of research on him actually and I don't see much besides his speed, as I said. I will also give him that he's pretty good at coming back to the ball and making something out of broken plays. However, he is not great at anything else and those skills alone will not make him a great receiver.

I see his limitations being way too much for him to overcome. He could be a decent, Ted Ginn type player (as a receiver, not a returner) who can stretch the field and make some plays in the open field. However, his inability to break jams is going to hurt him. I also don't like the fact that he brings nothing to the return game. His ability to high point the ball is extremely overrated as well. People keep saying he is like Smitty but forget how great of a possession receiver he was and is still today. Cooks can catch the ball above his head pretty well, but he is far from a receiver that you can throw a jump ball to and expect him to come down with it (something Smitty was great at).

Weaknesses Size is just adequate -- is small-framed and lacks ideal length and bulk. Vulnerable to the jam and reroute. Relatively small catch radius. Has small hands and double-catches some throws. Lacks elite, blazing speed to run by NFL corners and safeties. Will struggle to play "above the rim" at the next level. Was not an impactful punt returner. Limited run strength. Poor blocker.

And y'all are getting too caught up on the "mediocre" statement. Obviously he was not mediocre in college. I never meant it that way. His stats speak for themself. He, in my opinion (this is the key), will be mediocre in the NFL. Like I said, I see his ceiling as a Ted Ginn type player minus the return ability. While, yes, there is value in that player, I don't want to waste a first round pick on that.

I await your incoming insults and laughter about how I'm stupid and Cooks is a great receiver and there is no way that you could possibly be wrong.

I reserve the right to laugh if something strikes me as funny.

I never do insults unless someone starts with me.  You have the wrong guy.

Everyone has an opinion and, being that it's all guesswork at this point, you are certainly entitled to yours. But like I said, I'll give the opinions of the pros a little bit more credence.  If Dave Gettleman would pick him (or picks him), then that pretty much tells me all that I need to know.  The thing is is that he'll probably be gone which makes this discussion moot.

One individual hasn't even been drafted to play in the NFL yet, the other is a three time pro bowler who just finished his sixth season.

What are you attempting to debate here?

Confidence is just about as important and skill. You need it. Especially at the Wide Receiver and Corner back positions.
