Thomas DeCoud Visiting Monday

He was bad in 2012 as well. A bad front seven certainly can make your performance drop off, but it shouldn't drop to the extent it did for DeCoud. Obviously I'll cede talent judgment to our GM. DeCoud has been solid in years past, but the past two he has been anything but.

Bad in 2012? He made the probowl that year.

Hilarious

We have a lot of young DB'S (White, Thomas, Dockery, Lester, Norman). I like the idea of adding more vets like Cason, Thomas, and Decoud to the Secondary instead of more younger players.

If we can draft another young Safety in later rounds. I'm happy with the Secondary.

IMO the only reason he made the pro bowl is because he made a high amount of picks that year with six. Impressive and good for him, but using six plays out of 1000 snaps will not get us good judgment on a player. His QB rating is impressive but every other coverage statistic leaves him out of the top twenty. Looking back at the stats, " below average" might be more accurate

2012 Stats: For Safeties who have played at least 50 percent of snaps

He's 36th (out of 58) in yards allowed after the catch

He's 40th in yards allowed

He's 35th in yards allowed per completion

He's 33rd in QB completion percentage

He has the 2nd worst tackle efficiency rating

À

He's 25th in tackles total.

10th in QB rating

2nd in interceptions made

PFF: Coverage Rating: 2.1 23rd best

PFF Run Rating: -5.3 50th best

How is the Pro Bowl a reliable measurement?

But that's all I'm really willing to concede.

Because guys who had terrible years don't usually make the pro bowl. No matter how much of a popularity contest it is. Bad players usually don't make the trip to Hawaii.

Mike Mitchell never got good grades from PFF but everyone loved his play last year

And yet he has always been better than Godfrey. Godfrey has been one of the worst safeties in the league and gets paid handsomely for it. Bringing him in for a bargain should work fine. I am really starting to get Gettleman's approach. Fill needs with cheap experience and build your team with the draft. It will take a few years but it should fall into place really nicely going forward.

Gentlemans approach is refreshing but after about 3 to 5 years &@&" better be on point ....

Somebody refresh my memory. We can just cut Godfrey once he is healthy? What is the cap hit?

I hoped someone would help you here, so I waited.  I am not 100% sure and don't have details, but I refuse to leave a fellow Catamount hanging.

I think we clear about $4 million (June 1 cut) and are waiting for him to get medical clearance.  even if he were not injured, it makes no sense for them to cut him now anyway.

I think DeCoud will be a Panther by Wednesday.
