What would be the point of signing these guys. We have backups

Providing Cam stays healthy for the next 10 years, not much.

Carrying Anderson for minimum has worked well so far, no harm being better prepared for the unimaginable.

I wish Cam had sounded a little more confident about his ankle surgery in an interview yesterday with Auburn beat writer, Phillip Marshall.

"I think you kind of just get used to it," Newton said. "You don't realize how much it is affecting you. I think it affected more than I knew it did. Hopefully, now I'll be better and it will show up where it needs to show up."

The surgery, he said, was successful.

"It went good," Newton said. "I think I'll be a lot better off for it."

Got to improve all areas of the roster. Injuries happen. If you think cam will go his entire career without missing a game, you will be disappointed. Even if we sign some of these guys, they aren't meant to help now.

Sounds positive to me. Give him a chance to run on it again before getting too worried.

Hell, nobody knew he had this injury he apparently has been carrying for 3 years.

I like the idea of Brett Smith. You need a QB that can handle the pressure in this league.

Madden passing stats are cool and all but you need a guy that can stay alive.

Its why I don't get the Manziel hate, I think he'll be great and teams are going to regret passing on him. Sounds very similar to the hate Cam got.

Do you mean Brad Smith?

It's always good to have a decent backup quarterback that can step in incase the worst happens (ie Cam gets injured). Anderson is ok, but is he the guy you would want taking over the starting job if Cam goes down in week 10 with us sat on a 6-3 or 7-2 record?

I'm not sure.

The other reason to have a young back up is on the off chance that you find a guy you can develop, that might become a player QB needy teams might target.

Finally, there is always a chance the team is grabbing a guy to develop just in the unlikely scenario that Cam doesn't get a long term deal. Can't see this being the case though. For me, it is probably more this team wants a good young back up QB with upside.
