Panthers work out WR, Robert Herron. Speedy, but that's about it right now.

Gil Brandt tweeted that we were working out Herron (and QB, Brett Smith).  From Nawrocki's (NFL.com) draft profile, Herron has a lot of work to do.  Probable slot guy who projects to go in rounds 3-5, as his draft stock improved since the Senior Bowl.

STRENGTHS  Good athlete. Exceptional straight-line timed speed -- can accelerate and get on top of DBs vertically. Quick-footed. Above-average hands. Has return capability (despite not being used as a returner because of offensive value). WEAKNESSES  Does not play fast. Marginal toughness -- does not like crossing the middle or extending across his frame. Drifts in his routes. Short-arms the ball. Does not adjust to or track the deep ball well. Lacks physical strength and is jarred on contact after the catch. Carries the ball loosely. Disinterested blocker, especially on the backside. Regularly matched up vs. inferior competition. Has been dinged a lot and long-term durability is a concern. BOTTOM LINE  Very diminutive, outside receiver with the timed speed to threaten the field vertically and potentially contribute in the return game. Needs to prove he can bow up against better competition and is more than a track athlete.

This YT video is kinda weird (the same replay in slow-mo several times), but gets point across. Dude is fast (4.35 speed) and quick.

Might be in the minority here, but I like Herron in the 3rd/4th. Kid might go in the third too, so don't bank on him being there in the 4th. For those that want to compare Cooks to Smitty....this is the kid that reminds me more of Smith coming out of Utah. Almost exact height/weight/speed/vertical numbers, and both were viewed as slot/ST players initially. Herron has that "receiver/chip on his shoulder" attitude to back his game too.

Before I get roasted, point of this was not to draw more Smitty comparisons. Smith was Smith and we shouldn't be looking to find our next #89.

panthers have now either worked out or have visits with the following WRs

Robert Herron

Brandin Cooks

Marqise Lee

Davante Adams

Cody Latimer

Philly Brown

Jordan Matthews

Matt Hazel

Jared Abbrederis

Pro days for Penn State and LSU are the 8th and 9th, gotta figure he'll get a look at Robinson and the Tiger twins as well.

This. This exactly. Herron is Steve Smith. He's got the drive and the toughness too.

I don't trust Nawrocki as far as I can throw him, but didn't he say the kid's toughness was an issue?

I have no idea who Nawrocki is, but I'm going off of what I've seen.

By toughness, I'm not talking about injury avoidance or anything, but rather his ballsiness when going up for the ball or fighting for extra yards. He will go for the ball regardless of who or what is ahead of him, and he'll fight for extra yards instead of stepping out of bounds.
