I really don't understand the Huddle's obsession with Kenyon Barner... He hasn't done anything, he didn't do anything in the preseason, and his college tape was underwhelming to me. He is fast, yes, but he falls at first contact, he is undersized, and he isn't shifty like sproles is. I just see him as another huddle love guy who doesn't end up doing anything at all. 

 

I haven't really seen anyone with an "obsession" about him. Seems to be a pretty even split between people who think that he will never amount to anything, and others who simply want to give him more than one rookie season. If he doesn't work out, we move on, it's that simple.

I agree with you, I'm not balking on him as a prospect, but I am saying that there are people on here that are acting like he is a future all star already, and I just don't see how when he got no playing time whatsoever, and he hasn't really done anything to impress anyone yet other than run fast in a straight line with no pads on.

Yeah, I have very little expectations, just hoping that maybe he will surprise us. We need some good fortune.

We'll definitely be evaluating him more this year, as it's almost a certain that we'll cut at least one running back next year. I hope he survives as well, but I also don't have high expectations for him or Kugbila.

Dude has legit 4.4 speed. He ran the read option, something we were doing with Cam. I thought it was a no brainer pre draft.

 

I hope he blossoms next year. Unfortunately he probably still won't get enough snaps with Stu back healthy, Tolbert and Delo.

 

Delo was drafted in the first and falls down easily too.

 

Speed is not the only thing that makes a running back great. he needs vision, elusiveness, and balance, and those are things I did not see out of Barber watching his stuff from college. He was good at following his blocks, and he ran the ball 50 times a game (hyperbole) so he should have had great stats, but oregon's offense is designed to put up crazy numbers. 

 

It's just my opinion, I just don't see him amounting to much in the NFL. I've been wrong before on more than one occasion, and if I am, I'll gladly admit it. I just don't really see it happening with who is in front of him.

I'll grant you the system at Oregon helped him greatly. But I don't see how you can say he didn't display vision, elusiveness or balance. He's not a power back, he's a speed back that runs very directly, he doesn't dance about. I think he did a tremendous job of spotting the holes and hitting them, gets very north/south when he sees it. Not afraid to take it up the gut for a small guy either.

 

Delo is a very straight forward RB too, he hits the hole provided and takes what is given, rarely does he break tackles and make cut backs for huge gains. He takes what is given and protects the ball (generally).

 

I think what he lacked was touches, like you say Oregon gave him. He returned kicks and punts too so its not like he doesn't display some shiftiness to match the speed. What he needs to do is protect the ball or he'll be gone as quick as Joe Adams was.

 

It would also help if the Oline actually opened up some holes, we had some real issues with that last year. The depth chart will be an issue, there is a lot of seniority in front of him that we've invested a lot of money in. However, if we're going to unload a contract or two in the near future he needs to get a chance other than preseason games with backups.

 

Maybe releasing Ginn opens up a chance to do some returning at least. Sometimes all a guy needs is opportunity like Ellington had in Zona.
