Wharton leaning towards retirement

I love how you defend your opinion, with stating that keeping a core player is irresponsible.

We had money going into this offseason and we spent over half of that on one player, that's banking on a philosophy that better damn sure pay off.

I also think signing Cam Newton to a 100 million dollar contract(which will happen) and making him a game manager is also irresponsible. You have to maximize your investment, if you just need 10 catches then go get Mark Sanchez, and give him 5 mil a year to play keep away.

sadly, he struggles with that as well :(

Sadly true.

He's not the guy he used to be.

He's coming off the best season of his career and is rated as a top 3 FA guard by just about everything I can find.

He just wants to retire.

Say what? How in the hell would you argue that Nicks and Decker AREN'T proven??? Nicks had an awful year, but the contract he signed was evident of that. It's not like the guy got a truckload of guaranteed money.

Jericho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood... LOL!

I find it pretty funny how so much of our fanbase is all of a sudden looking down their noses at other NFL franchise like we're the Steelers or Packers or something. I hate to break the news to you, but aside from last year the Panthers have been one of the worst teams in the NFL in recent years.

I sure hope Gettleman knows what he's doing in the long-run, but I've never seen a team take a QB #1 overall and then seemingly refuse to build an offense around him. But, who knows... maybe we'll spend damn near our entire draft on offense.

He said it several times. We are building a team that consistently wins, year in andcyear out. Building a dynasty doesnt start by overpaying for mediocre FA just so we can compete the next year. Hes gambling that we get some steals in the draft and preseason cuts.

Tgat said, Im not a PSL owner. I can see the frustration there if i was. Its like being pissed on by a 1/2 billion dollar franchise.

Based on what?

If he's leaning toward retirement than he isn't going to go visit a team and there is no story for Person to not report.

Based on the fact that you haven't heard anything much about teams trying to get him this offseason.

Want another source?  here ya go.

Wharton is currently ranked 101st on what is now PFT‘s Hot 100 and more list of the top free agents, but the 32-year-old hasn’t generated much buzz in free agency after a good season in Carolina. While that season hasn’t generated the offers Wharton might have liked at this point, an injury or deviation from draft plans could lead a team to come knocking on Wharton’s door before he totally closes it.

PFT

No one was all that hot for him last year either.  Hence, why he was available when we picked him up.

The following exchange does not create any kind of story to report on. Nobody would have a clue that interest is expressed unless it generates a visit. The only way this gets noticed is if Wharton or his agent say something about it....if he is retiring then they have no reason to.

"Hey Wharton's Agent, we are thinking about your client"

"He's considering retiring"

"Oh, ok then"

Regardless I was just correcting you when you said he wasn't what he used to be. He had the best season of his career. You can read just about any list of FA guards and they will list him between 1 and 5.
