Wharton leaning towards retirement

I sure hope youre not considering Nicks & Decker as "proven". The only big-name proven WR that hit the market was DJax. And thank christ we didnt mortgage parts of our future on him. Theres a reason he was available for so long and no one bit except for 1 of the 2 most desperate and mis-managed teams of the last 20 years

Say what?  How in the hell would you argue that Nicks and Decker AREN'T proven???  Nicks had an awful year, but the contract he signed was evident of that.  It's not like the guy got a truckload of guaranteed money.

Jericho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood... LOL!

I find it pretty funny how so much of our fanbase is all of a sudden looking down their noses at other NFL franchise like we're the Steelers or Packers or something.  I hate to break the news to you, but aside from last year the Panthers have been one of the worst teams in the NFL in recent years.

I sure hope Gettleman knows what he's doing in the long-run, but I've never seen a team take a QB #1 overall and then seemingly refuse to build an offense around him.  But, who knows... maybe we'll spend damn near our entire draft on offense.

You're a moron if you don't think Nicks is proven.

Nicks and Decker arent even close to "proven". If nicks was, his contract wouldnt reflect his "one" bad year (according to you).

Oh and FYI.... Even my pop warner team years and years ago looked down their nose at the raiders.

"Refuse to build an offense around"...?? Wtf? Peyton Manning is one of (if not THE) greatest QB of all time. The Colts did NOTHING but surround him the hall of fame receivers, an amazing OLine and every weapon he could ask for. What happened? They had ZERO cap room left for defense and got destroyed the first 7 years the entered the playoffs.

Yet Gettleman takes Eli, and wins 2 superbowls in 4 years. How? Was it a parade of free agent receivers? No. It was with an unreal defense, dominate OLine that was built up over a few years and young WRs they drafted.

Hmmmmmm.... Sound familiar? Maybe it will work here, maybe it wont. But how the fug can you look at what Gettleman is doing now and NOT see the resemblance?

This post pretty much confirmed you're an idiot, but I'm bored and will respond anyway.

1. Raiders championships - 3.  Panthers championships - 0

2. That's exactly my point.  Other teams have built an offense around their young franchise QB, we have not.

3. Gettleman was not the GM of the Giants, he was the Senior Pro Personnel Analyst.  If you want to look at what Gettleman did for the Giants, about the only real indication is their free agent signings.  Now that isn't only on G'man because the GM may or may not have took his advice on those matters.  Who did the Giants sign as free agents while G'man was there?  Not being a smartass here, I honestly don't know.

4. We may have the worst OL and WR corps in the NFL on paper.

The Colts perennially made it to the playoffs building around Manning and ended up with a Super Bowl ring.  How many Lombardis are in the Panthers' trophy case?  Since '05 we're 0-2 in the playoffs.  0-1 under Gettleman.

When you guys say were making excuses, what do you mean? What if were buying into a strategy that gettleman employed last season, which yielded 12-4?

When you claim excuse, your argument is invalid. What excuse?

And oh god not another player! Wharton! Oh man like we weren't complaining about his play on the field last season. When players weren't that good to begin with, yeah they are easy to replace mr proudiddy
