He has one year left on his rookie deal. The next year the Panthers will invoke the fifth year option built into his rookie contract. After that, the Franchise Tag could be used for the following two seasons.

That puts him her for the next four seasons at minimum.

I have a hard time believing a long term deal can't be struck in that time frame.

I believe that he didn't follow the Chip Kelly way. He didn't fit in, he probably missed some meetings and fell asleep in others. When you do that and still go out and ball on Sundays it becomes a power struggle. So you cut ties with him and make up gang allegations.

 

I see that there could have been a rift between Kelly and Jackson, but the gang allegations were not necessary to cut ties with him (unless you are talking about the court of public opinion) and a legit NFL organization does not lie about a player in a manner that it could ruin his life in order to get sympathy for cutting a very good player.   Besides, the gang allegation stories were coming from people outside the organization.

 

it is much more likely that the stories were true than they were fabricated by the Eagles. 

 

If the Eagles let a great player go without good reason, then they will be the laughing stock of the league when DJ posts 13 TDs and 1500 yards in Washington.

 

Here is something we probably can both agree on:  He went to an NFC East team so he can get his revenge twice each year for the next several seasons.

See I don't understand that because the report was done by an investigative reporter for NJ.com that cited interviews he did with California Police detectives. Then the article goes on to say that the Eagles ignored calls from the police when they called to discuss the gang affiliation. The guy who wrote the article even contacted the Eagles for their side of the story and the Eagles refuse comment.

 

I mostly like Steven A but how someone can say the Eagles put the story out there, I just don't understand.

That is my thought and honestly I don't think that Jackson demanded for example double coverage all the time.  While he had a few monster games last year for example he had 5 games where he had less than 40 yards and that wasn't because they rolled coverage to him all the time.  On the Eagles I think that McCoy using your definition was more of a game changer and teams put more effort into game planning to stop the run versus Jackson.  In fact Jackson benefited quite a bit from teams who bit on play action allowing him to get loose behind them.

 

This reminded me of something I was thinking about on the drive home from work the other day. Who sees the most double coverage on the Redskins now? Is it D-Jax who gets the most attention or P Garcon? I would think it is P Garcon but not sure.
