lol @ the Saints, their cap situation is so bad they were only able to sign..... multiple star players

They are mortgaging the future and going all in now because their window is quickly closing. They are poo without Brees and he is getting long in the tooth.

Again we messed up big time franchising Hardy.  We could have been almost 17 million dollars under the cap had we just let him walk.  Then we could have signed Jared Allen and D-Jax with money to spare.  I most definitely believe Hardy will not sign a long term deal this year, it would be financially stupid in all seriousness.  You could sign the long term deal right now, but on the other hand you could also rack up 13 million this year and sign a long term deal to add on next year.  So which is smarter, just getting the long term deal, or get the long term deal with an extra 13 million dollars?

he's not getting an extra 13 mil............

he's picking up a couple extra mil on the tag but at the same time is exposing himself if injured.

Even though it's football, I don't think the risk of injury will be that big for Hardy.  Yet the risk is well worth it in my opinion.  If he stays healthy, its almost certain he will put up big numbers because of his talent and because of the guys playing beside him.  I would take that risk if I was after the money.  It certainly looks that way with Hardy right now. (He would have signed by now if he was just looking for the long term deal)

We could have actually been 22 million under the cap if we cut Godfrey.  Dumb decisions all around.

Has Godfrey been released by the doctors and cleared to play ??

I don't know the answer to that but, I believe he has to be cleared before you can release him.

That's true.  Yet we've been hearing the Panthers want to keep him.  So it seems as though he will be on the roster regardless, maybe with a restructured deal.  That's definitely a dumb decision there.  Of course Gettleman has done some good things, especially considering the limited cap space we have because of Hurney.  Yet there was some moves he could have made this year that would have put us in good position to get us good free agents.  Now we are handicapped on the offensive side of the ball.  We will definitely be depending on rookies on offense this year at WR and on the O-line.  Can anyone point to recent history where that has worked for a team? (Not to mention our running backs are breaking down.  Cam will literally be our only weapon on offense)

How many rookies did we have starting on defense last year ???

I see your point.  You think that kind of success will be mirrored by the offense?  LT is a critical position, and we were already terrible on the O-line last year.  Any lineman we draft won't be top notch guys.  Wide receiver is one of the more difficult positions to transition from college to the pros.  Cam will have to develop communication with these rookies, and he himself is still developing.  The biggest thing however is coaching.  Rivera makes his money on defense, so perhaps that helped last year. (I believe every year he's been here, our defense has improved)  We don't have nothing concerning offensive genius on the sidelines.  I'm very worried about that offense.

    • Because being a pauper in the NFL is still making a king's ransom. NFL vet min is roughly 18x the median salary in the U.S.
    • At some point I sense it's gonna create some hate and locker room cancer between these cap hogs and the rest of the players. When the top 6 or 7 players take 80% of the cap, the other 40 plus guys are gonna get pissed off, especially when they're still only winning 5 or 6 games. Why put everything on the line to play with guys who are only in it for themselves?
    • I am just spitballing here--let it play out and I will go to bed: Let's say Mahome's contract comes due and he insists on $100m per season.  Is there a team that would find the money to pay it?  Would KC? It was in 2015 (I think) when Cam was getting $20m and it was hard to grasp.  In the past decade, the price of a franchise QB has tripled.  Then the next QB bases his contract on the Mahomes deal.  The trend has been the last QB contract is the highest.  I see nothing to discourage that trend--Greed can destroy a league.  Personally, I don't watch baseball any more, and the NBA has a small group of about 8 teams that appear on national TV and they have players who make more than some eastern block countries.  Ticket prices go up---and we are headed for pay-per-view very soon across the board-
