Panthers have 3.98 million in cap space

According to overthecap.com (article here) we only need

$1,669,283 in new cap space for the draft. The 7 contracts will cost about

4.6M but we'll gain back the bottom 7 contracts in the top-51 equation; thus only costing 1.6M in new money. 3.98M is plenty.

Also, if we sign FA's, we'll gain $ that leaves the top-51 contract equation. Bottom 51st right now is a 495k contract. If you sign an FA for 1M, you gain 495k -- meaning the new player only costs 505k in new cap space.

Is that taking into account the summation of contracts from previous selections at our specific picks in past years or is a broad brush numbers crunch for every team?

They seem to be cookie cutter under the new cba. They are associated with the overall cap limit because his calculations rose when the 133 number came out.

I could cross check last year's numbers with who got what, but it should be fairly accurate. I'd be confident that it won't be some huge swing from what OTC published

Ok, I checked Star's estimates to what he actually got and they are damn near identical

estimates on Star (#14 pick)

Star's contract

I would trust his estimates based on that alone. Here's the contract breakdown for every pick this year.

Like everyone's said in this new CBA, rookie contracts really aren't negotiated anymore, they are pretty much set in stone. That's why his numbers seem to be so accurate to last year. He does a good job over there, same with spotrac.com -- but OTC has been much more involved this year vs spotrac

This is great info. Good find. Contracts have had small incremental hikes since the new CBA so I imagine the space will be somewhat narrower but not significantly.

I'm a cap space guy, for some reason I enjoy the info in the numbers, lol. The rookie contracts will definitely stay low unless they rework the cba at the end of agreement.

Drafted rookies can always try and work a little bit of extra money out of it, but what they get wouldn't be a huge deal. Maybe an extra 50k or something; nothing significant like you're saying. From what they said last year the top 10 picks take a little extra time because they try to work certain language in the contracts or gain extra $.

Lol at the Steelers giving a 25 million dollar contract to Mitchell while they don't have enough to sign their rookies.

That's a good point. They've got a lot of needs to. I went to some Steelers forums to check out what their draft needs were and someone said 'can we draft a new coach?' lol. What the fug are they doing?

lol @ the Saints, their cap situation is so bad they were only able to sign..... multiple star players

No kidding. The 49ers were in the D Jax mix as well. Are we cap challenged or do we have challenges understanding the cap? Yes I am talking to you Branden Beane Mr Panther Capologist.
