D. Newton: Rivera is right. We don't need a number 1 WR. / OK, OK...

Yeah you've said it multiple times and you are wrong. Jordy is clearly a number one and Cobb was about to have a break out season before his injury both of them would be number ones on a lot of teams

Meh, you like cats, I prefer dogs.

I also don't particularly like QBs that are short.

But like I said, you can win a SB with Jordy as a "number one." I just personally would not go into a season with him as number one unless I had a Rodgers or Manning or Brady or Brees...

I love dogs your argument is invalid. I jest but Steve was a number one and the best receiver in the league at a point in time regardless of his height. Kinda a lame qualifier

We need red zone targets. We do need to eat the clock but once we get in the red zone it's a must to convert. Teams will be better prepared. Hell defenses can sit in prevent and let us get down the field, but if they are holding us to 3 every time b/c nobody can come up with a play in the end zone, we're screwed. Burners are important otherwise why do so many play actions?

Last I saw it was the QB responsibility to read the defense, go through his progression and get the ball to the correct receiver.   I am certain that every passing play isn't designed for the "#1 WR".    I most certainly want players that can get open and more importantly catch the ball.

The #1 WR is about as mythical as the Starting Running Back when referring to D Will and Stewart.   Whoever is on the field for the first play is #1 Running back regardless of how many carries they get.

With a #1 like Steve Smith teams rolled their defense to prevent him from getting the ball.   Who does the defense rotate to if all WR are equally as potent? (Good Route running, good hands and fast).

Seems to me more things open up with 3 solid WRs than a stud like Smitty (in his prime).

If a top notch WR falls in our lap hopefully we'll take him.   We need a WR that on 3rd and 10 can run a good comeback route and catch the ball at the sticks.   I can careless if that is his second and last catch of the game.  As long as it gets done.

What you're asking in this post is "What if we had a bunch of #1 WRs" when the real question is "What if we have a bunch of WRs rated 70 in Madden."

They don't have to roll the defense at all if they can cover all of your receivers without it.

Well there you go.   Our entire season is shot because Madden has them rated at 70.

That is how half of you would GM the team.  If Madden has them rated low then by fugging god they ain't worth a poo.

Got news for you.  LIFE DOESN'T REVOLVE AROUND MADDEN 2014.

This receiving Corps will be overall better than the one we had in 2013.

Great WRs make it look easy. We had Smith for so long we forgot how bad it can get. Its just like how people for get how a great oline or RB can change the game so much.

I think we're going to be in for a rude awakening unfortunately. We really need some receiving threats to take the load off our running backs and offensive line. If we can get a solid number two from cuts or in the draft we could make it work, but we would still need at least another solid run blocking tackle to make it work. I don't think we'll be able to produce the numbers from our run game (Cam scrambling) or from Olsen without someone else to draw attention from the defense.

As the article points out, we haven't had a true #1 receiver for a couple years...

I don't know about that. Mr. Smith still put up really good numbers in 2011 (1400 yards approx), and 2012 (1200 yards approx)!
