I'd call 12-4 pretty good.

These things go in cycles.  Right now most of the league has built their defenses around stopping the pass.  That means a team that's built to run could take advantage since other teams won't have what it takes to stop them.

If more teams gear to stop the run, then a passing team will blah blah blah...round and round we go.

And to be clear, it doesn't say anything negative about Newton to say this team's focus is power running.  You still have to be able to pass for the run to be effective too.

Good response.

I got you (on everything).

[As a side note] many silly analyst DID think the Panthers were a running team, even during Cam's rookie and sophomore season when they actually threw the ball more than they ran it.

My issue really is: Any Panthers fan that actually watched the Panthers any of the past three seasons knows that's laughable (in either philosophy or execution). The Panther running game (outside of Cam and the inconsistently used Tolbert), mind you the OL,  were too inconsistent to trusted as the "focal point of the offense" As I said earlier: This is not Washington, Seattle or San Fran's running game (though select Panther fans, and unknowing "analyst" try to group them together this way). Far from it.

Cam is the Focal point of the offense. And he will run or throw depending on the situation and how good the team executes one or the other during the game or season. Hopefully, he'll get a lot of assistance/improvements next season from his receiving, running corps, OL, OC, and himself?

We'll see?

People think of the Panthers as a running team because the Panthers have always been a running team.  It's a by-product of being a team that always hires defensive coaches.

Only two periods in Panthers history look to be exceptions.  The first is George Seifert's tenure when we went West Coast.  The second is Rob Chudzinski's two years.

For the record, Chudzinski was always pegged as a "pass happy" OC.  After his departure though, no one, including the receivers who would have benefitted from this, seemed especially sad that he was gone.

Cyrus has been a top rated prospect since high school with some rankings putting him ahead of clowney bridgewater and Sammy Watkins. He played on arguably the best college team these past three years and was all american last season. Are we really trying to talk ourselves out of such a dominant guy with loads of upside?
