John Ramsdell - Senior Offensive Assistant?

Person finally reporting it. No sources.

edit - actually it says he's taking Taylor's place, which isn't exactly true.  Taylor's assistant WR coach job - essentially a paid internship - should be fairly different from the one Ramsdell will take.

Guy has a deep, deep, deep background in Coryell offensive philosophy.

A while back, Peter King mentioned him as a possible option for OC here.  mentioned he's got a very solid record working with young quarterbacks.

Is there any reason you know of that he's never been a coordinator?

Anytime a new guy comes in, one of my first questions is his coaching connections (beyond the obvious ones).

Ramsdell strikes me as one of those guys that might have been Rivera's first choice for a coaching spot that he wasn't able to get for some reason (kind of like Wilks).

yeah it often is for me too.  I just blew past it this time.  It's pretty awesome he and Proehl are coaching together.

well, with the Rams there was Mike Martz, who knows a bit about that, and Al Saunders was the receivers coach (and he's a pretty fantastic offensive mind, too).

With the Chargers, Norv is essentially the OC anyway, Clarence Shelmon was the OC in title, and you had Chud on staff helping out (along with Ramsdell).  I don't know if he is the strongest guy in either room but he was in some really great rooms.

I was a little surprised he didn't end up on Chud's staff, or anyone's, last year. But, Chud isn't always easy to get along with.

For what it's worth, absolutely, I do think he'd be a great coordinator.

I can understand why he wasn't on those teams, I was wondering more about why he'd never left to be OC somewhere else.  Not saying he couldn't do it, just curious.

Thanks for the response.
