DNewton from ESPN thinks Panthers wants Godfrey back

As it stands, Charles Godfrey Charles is slated to be the starter beside Harper. This is not a bad fit, but Godfrey's $7.1 million hit against the team's 2014 salary cap makes him a viable June 1 cut. This would open up $5.1 million in cap space for the team and give us some much-needed breathing room.

Another direction that the team could head with Godfrey would be a contract restructuring. In order to remain on the team, he would likely need to take a pay cut and push the bulk of his salary to 2015 and 2016.

The list for players who have fully recovered from Achilles tears has to be short...especially at speed positions like DB. Not sure we can expect much out I Godfrey moving forward and that current pricetag is tough to swallow for a cap-strapped team.

I hope he recovers 100%, for a myriad or reasons, but that contract is no good, regardless of his recovery.

Yeah, it feels like the list is longer of guys who make their money in the trenches.

Godfrey had one good year and got paid on that outlier.  He hasn't been that good under Rivera, and tons of guys have.  It'd be nice to be sentimental, and see what happens, but no, rather just play good defense.

Always said he made a lot of money off of 'highlight reel' hits that made him look better than he really was.
