on a serious note the Panthers are never going to Move, reason being?  demographics! simple enough, we are the only team in the NC/SC area which NC is the 10th most populated state(that's not counting SC which if you include the two we would the 5th), you arent going to move a team from a top 10 area to an area that already has 3 teams with in reasonable distance, even if it is LA, teams that would move are teams in markets already having problems and are also already in areas where other teams are present, best options to move are the Bills and Jacksonville, both places have been having fan support issues.

But the Bills and Jacksonville arent sexy to talk about, they havent been good in ages, Panthers though are because we are in Charlotte and considered a small market team(no consideration is given to the fact that the Triangle area and Columbia and Greenville SC are all within an easy 1 1/2 - 2 hour drive from us) and we have a good QB with a great defense making us something fun to talk about.

After this initial tether is up for the current round of upgrades, the team will again approach the city and state for public funding. This time for even more money. With the purse strings being tightened on tax coffers and the recent corruption scandal, public money will be hard to come by. If new ownership is in place at this time, the new owners play hardball, either the state blinks or the new owners are forced to make a decision. Maybe the NFL steps in and applies some pressure like in Minnesota.

Exactly.  No lease means that it can be bought and moved without the new ownership paying a ton of money in penalties for breaking a lease.

Owning your own stadium though creates a huge windfall in profits, something that would take a hit with a lease. the panthers this past season had their "100th" straight sell out because of PSL's.

If they were to move to LA they would primarly only be marketable in LA, meaning would the loss of the teams Marketablility in NC/SC(an area known for good support behind their sports teams) outway the potential of LA, an area that has already lost 2 NFL teams in the past due to lack of support.

the Answer is simply no, it's not, read my other post on this teams most likely to move are the Bills and Jags with the Jags being #1, and it's not even close.

Throwing the Panthers into any move talks is nothing more then lazy reporting.

so what happens when the Panthers go up for sale 2yrs after JR dies and they get bought by Paris Hilton or Ryan Seacrest?  You think they'll stay in Charlotte?  No one is saying that someone from LA will buy them, but it is certainly a possibility because they will go up for sale.  Someone has to buy them, I just hope it's someone in Charlotte.

Jerry and is family dont own the entire team he just owns the biggest portion of shares among the ownership group.

the Entire Richardson Family owns only 47% percent of the team shares, and the rest of the onwership is all Charlotte based.

If you break down the whole thing Jerry only owns around 40% of the Panthers with his son/sons family and wife owning the rest.

Panthers aint going anywhere, even if Jerry dies.

You only need to own 30% to be a controlling owner, but I do agree here - the Charlotte connections are too strong. Jerry may own 48% but the other 52% is held by businesspeople throughout the Carolinas. The stadium alone is worth about 15% of our 1 billion valuation and the market is another 15, with the brand itself being 5% In all likelihood they would not tolerate a move, sue to home connections and the risk of losing 35% (350 million) of the team's value.

I never said Jerry wasnt the Majority owner, just that if push comes to shove there is enough locals here owning enough shares to counter any choice to move by a new owner if someone were to buy his entire 40% share, that's assuming that someone is willing for fork over that kind of money ($400m value) a more likely scenario is that the 40% will be bought buy another ownership group, outside of some extreme billionaires there would not be many that would want to fork over that amount of money to anything even if it's to ownership of a NFL team.

According to Forbes', the Panthers are the 18th most lucrative football franchise. I don't see how that makes us a small market franchise anymore.

Northern Airheads, without a clue as to what is really going on. What a poostorm would occur if the panthers got moved...despite the heavy population of buffalo, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin transplants into the area.
