Can Byron Bell really play left tackle and Cam survive?

I, like all of you, do not really have the skillset that it takes to evaluate potential NFL talent.

This.  Just from watching it seemed to me the line got better as the season went on, PFF had the panthers as the #10 pass blocking team in the league and byron bell improving quite a bit each season.  I think the line issues are a combination of the play of the o-linemen (obviously), cam not being great in the pocket, and the receivers not getting open consistently.

So I feel like Cam continuing to develop, upgrading the WR corps or upgrading the O line itself would all help significantly.

I've watched byron bell enough to know that yes he is in fact our worst offensive lineman if he is our starting lt coming into training camp I guarantee we will have the worst oline in the league.

Some seem to think bell isnt so bad and will flourish on the left side well let me recommend nfl gamerewind to you guys so you can rewatch just how terrible bell actually is.

Clausen, Jarrett, Edwards, McClain, Fua, Mare, Delhomme even...all recent players that fans called for being cut years before they did. I'm not saying I'm taking a fan's opinion over the 'professionals' but professionals aren't always right and fans aren't always wrong.

Sometimes I think people give 'professionals' some kind mistake proof image, in reality they are just human and often rely on the same things everyone else does.

I am taking the comments from Gettleman to mean that they think he may be better suited for the left side and will be given a shot there during camp and preseason.  I do not think they have anointed him the starting LT.

Well we have two premier DE that Bell will face every practice until the season starts.  Hopefully he will transition to the Left side successfully.

i know he has look horrific at times but he may be more naturally comfortable on the left side.   I hope he does.   I would love to bring a slew of crow for all the doubters to eat.

Bring on the crow because I am hungry.

Gman defends the notion of moving him to LT.

"Panthers could shift Byron Bell to left tackle
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Panthers general manager Dave Gettleman said right tackle Byron Bell is a candidate to replace left tackle Jordan Gross, who retired. "Byron is a naturally left-handed kid," Gettleman said. "He played left tackle his whole college career. He's taken snaps there in practice and in preseason games."

Bell started 24 games at left tackle over his final two seasons at New Mexico.

"I think the mistake we make is we all have preconceived notions about what a guy can and can't do," Gettleman said. "I have seen Byron over there. In my mind, he is not a fish out of water."

Still, Carolina is expected to select an offensive tackle or two in the draft."
