I think there are too many thread police these days.

 

But I assume that the only reason we are picking up his option is because there is no downside and we had to do it in the next month or so anyway.

 

There is no way we let him see the 5th year of his contract unless our FO has gone full moron

Or we pick up Luke's 5th year option next year.  It depends on when we are fully cleared of some of these bad contracts and have the money to get everyone done.

No surprise here, but he has definitely outplayed his rookie contract and deserves a new deal imo. Especially seeing these monster deals the baseball players have gotten in recent days. Granted there's a salary cap and all, but Newton deserves better. He'll get paid soon enough, I just think they should have locked him up this offseason.

Exactly, you dont see the 49ers or Seahawks rushing to pay money to their QB's. We are in a position where we can wait and see what they pay them. We can hold onto Newton for another year longer than they can hold onto Wilson or Kaep.
