When I worked out with the Panthers, they just wanted me to run the route tree. It's kind of different with college and pros. Some teams want the speed out instead of just chopping the feet, or when you're running a dig route they want you to speed cut it in. The Panthers want a spear route. We had a nice conversation, and then we went in the receivers room and drew up some coverages. They told me they really like me and hope I won't get picked before they pick me.

Take it FWIW, lock if old.

I might think they really meant, "I hope nobody picks you.  We aren't either, but would love for you to come in as an undrafted free agent."

If I were a GM, I would reserve about half of my visits for players who may go undrafted.  I would establish a rapport with them so they would sign with me the day after the draft.

The others? I would see them at the bowl games, combine, and pro day workouts.  The reason I would do this is simple---

In the draft, we pick the player.  Afterwards, the player picks us.  White, Horton, Lester---good job last year in this area.  This year I expect to see some OL and WRs, TEs, and RBs.

Who was it said last year the Carolina was the only team that spoke with him and the #1 reason he came here.    I want to say Lester but not sure.
