Lucky you! glad you had fun. I love climbing the Dunns River Falls when in Jamaica, probably my favorite thing to do there. Worst thing about Jamaica is that a lot of the people are too pushy and rude. We are also lied to often, I don't care for their culture.

I agree.

I went down to Jamaica last summer for my friend's wedding. I had a good time initially, but I was done with it after the third or fourth day.

We tried going into town because the locals told us it was nice. It was a dump. Basically a flea market. People kept throwing things in our bags trying to make us buy them.

I'm not really a resort person, so I was kinda bored after a few days. I enjoyed Costa Rica a lot more because we stayed in several of the beach towns and while they're not nice by American standards, there is street life, its safe, and the people there are friendly.

I'm thinking about Puerto Rico sometime. Been to a lot of the Caribbean islands, a friend of mine said PR was pretty laid back and nice.

I loved it, but didn't stay at a resort.  was very much a genuine experience but still away from any dangerous situations.  the people I did meet were really cool and personable..

I'm like you, I don't care for just staying at the resort and yeah in Jamaica they just start putting stuff in your hands and then trying to make you pay for it. We had to tell our son to be on guard and do not accept anything they try to put in your hands.

Went to Jamaica, took 32 people with us, partied, ate, and got back late last night.

Spent 10 days down there, and have to be honest, was a bit surprised.  Much better/more fun than I was expecting.  Had some really good seafood, but I may never drink another Red Stripe again.

Just thought I'd share.

That's pretty odd, or maybe I'm the exception.  I didn't experience any of that, and everyone that I came in contact with was extremely nice and helpful.  Overall, I love their culture, they are survivalists, as one of them put it.

Closer to Kingston I've heard not so nice things, but in Mo Bay, and Negril, it was awesome.

Stayed at one of the big Sandals places for the first 6 days, then at a small boutique place for the next 4.  Loved them both.

Did you leave the resort much?

I've been around 5 times since I was a teenager and have always been harassed. We took my grandma one time on a cruise, we walked through a touristy spot where they were selling stuff, they were so mean to her when she didn't buy they poo they were shoving in her face. I've pretty much marked Jamaica off my list of places to go.

We left a ton, but didn't go to "major" touristy places.

Kept to the little boutique places, and off the radar places.  Couldn't have been better.

That said, the trick is to not go where the cruise ships land.

It also probably helps that I am quite a bit bigger than most of them, and they don't really think that they can take advantage.
