Desean Jackson released *update* Rivera interested *UPDATE X2* Rivera interest was a smokescreen?!

I've grown up in the Bay Area, and I have so many friends in prison with gang affiliations it's sickening. I have several friends in San Quentin for various felonies, several close friends in Tehachapi, Corcoran, Deuel Tracy, and Susanville. My little brother is in San Quentin right now and is a validated gang member. My wife's younger brother was stabbed to death because he was a dropout, left to die on a sidewalk.

I hung out with these guys my entire childhood and would have died for any one of them at some point, but they've made their choices and I've made mine and now I'm happy doing the 9-5 wife and kids and picket fence thing. This might have little to do with Desean Jackson I'm just saying having ties to gang members doesn't necessarily make you a piece of sh!t.

Glad to see that you were able to not fall victim to that lifestyle.  I could only imagine how tough it was to grow up in that environment and the intestinal fortitude that it took to go a different direction.

If he's not a number 1 then who is? On the field he's a beast, and he's a great punt returner too. I doubt we get him, but he's definitely a number 1.

There are many WRs I think are true No. 1...for example Justin Blackmon.

I like Jackson. I would not mind (if he has no gang connections) on our roster. I think we can win a SB with him as our most productive WR.

But, I also think he is a one trick pony that can be easily defended. Now that one trick is an awesome trick. And he is the best at that one trick.

But I have seen too many Philly games where he disappears because of the defense being played on him, and too many times when he could not be counted on 3rd down because of his size and his speed being neutralized.

sweet thread guys...

I don't know if he is a good idea, but its much more affordable now that he doesn't come with that giant price tag

He seems to be injury prone in the past....based on the years I drafted him for fantasy ;)

also, this has probably been mentioned, but I don't have time to read through the whole thread- anyone else think its very interesting that we are bringing in people like RHarper and considering DJax all the sudden?

Past years, we have always turned our nose up to guys like that because "Jerry only drafted or picked up non-thugs without sketchy pasts or run-ins with the law, drugs, etc."

Now we seem to be open to everyone----- soooo who was pulling the strings all those years? Marty or Jerry? Looks to me like Dave is laying down the law

I see what you are saying...but Justin Blackmon? Come on now...he's played about 10 games in 2 seasons. There's not many Calvin Johnsons out there. I'll take Jackson all day everyday, and twice on Sunday.

He had over 1,000 yards in his last 11 games, he's shown the ability to be a #1.

As an eagle fan would be interested to hear what you think about the release.  I know a lot of fans were threatening to jump from the top of the Linc if they didn't get anything in return.

Meh....hate that he is gone but it seems things run a bit deeper with DJax than people realized and if true, I can understand why the Eagles said enough is enough. DJax brought most of this on himself if you ask me.

Listening to Philly sports radio it seems people wished they got something for him but they understand his trade value went down the drain once NJ.com broke this story today. That's why he was cut 45mins after the story broke. They see the Eagles as hypocrite's for giving him a new contract if they knew this stuff was going on. It's seems to be 50/50 as far as fan reaction.

The Eagles were trying to trade him because Chip Kelly felt he could no longer control DJax and his attitude and he was a locker room issue but once this story broke, they decided to release him immediately.

Sent from my SCH-I545 using CarolinaHuddle mobile app

Yeah.

@ClaytonESPN: Despite his release, DeSean Jackson will have a market. I could see Kansas City, Jets and maybe carolina leading the pack.

I'm a white family man born in raised in so cal and I have family-like friends that have been in gangs, have been shot, shot at and did time.

I'm not about that life and it doesn't rub off or affect me.

Knowing people who are in gangs isn't the same as "gang ties". Saying he has "ties" indicates some level of involvement.

If all we're talking about is friends who are in gangs, that wouldn't bother me.

If he's the least bit involved in their activities though, even from far away, not interested.
