Rivera says Cam wasn't consulted in WR moves

Just because the defense got better doesn't mean they've built around Cam.

Again I ask you to look at all the Young QB'S drafted in the last 5 years and see what was added after them.

Even Jacksonville added more weapons to help Gabbert then we have done for Cam.

Hopefully that changes this year.

Again, you want to build a team around a franchise QB not just an offense.

I would rather be 12-4 like last season than be 6-10 with a really explosive offense like we were in 2011.

We built the defense first out of necessity because it was so awful.  Our offense can improve but has actually been pretty good all three seasons (yes even last season).  Our offense scoring on a high % of our possessions and not turning the ball over as much as the previous 2 seasons had as much to do with improving our defense as personnel did.

I think we finally found an identity this last season, and I think that we should build around that more so than any one player.

Yeah everybody likes being in 12-4 but to win the superbowl (which I hope is everybody main goal). The offense needs to be better then 26th in passing. The defense can't be much better then 1 or 2 ranked. We need to start doing what others teams do. Build around our Franchise QB if we want to go further. And nobody who has been a fan of this team can say that we have done a great job building around Cam. Plain and simple.

6-10 to 12-4 since Cam has been here.

I would say we have done a good job building around him.

Our defense until this year has not.  Should we have been building a good offense around a pooty defense just to "build around Cam"?

You build teams.  Our defense was terrible.  Our offense has been good.  So we built up our defense.

That is how you become a winner, then start filling in pieces.  We are still in the process of building a roster.  Cam is a part of that.  But we are trying to win, not just have a great offense and be a Detroit Lions clone

I disagree other teams have drafted actual weapons in early rounds to grow with their Young QB. We've drafted guards and brought in band aides and asked Cam to make it work.

Plain and simple this team will go no further without actual attention and resources paid to improving the offense around Cam.

We were top 5 yards after catch. Not one Wr had a 1000 yard season. We were the 26th ranked passing offense. Also without Cam scrambles we would have given up more sacks and been a top 20 rushing offense.

Our defense is good enough to win championship but ww need a offense to get us there.

Yeah the Seahawks totally had a high power offense during their Super Bowl run last year. So many points, so many threats....

Wilson didn't have to shoulder the load in the running game.

Cam Newton lead our team in rushing in 6 games last season.

Russell Wilson lead the Seahawks in rushing in one game, and he actually shared that with Marshawn Lynch.

Seattle's offense was better than Carolina's in rushing, passing and scoring.  Marshawn Lynch is better than everyone on the Panthers offense, they're primarily a rushing team and have invested in their O-line and spent 2 high picks on the RBs behind Marshawn.

Once again:

The worst offense in NFL history can get worse

The best offense in NFL history can get better

The best defense in NFL history can get better

The worst defense in NFL history can bet worse

Just because we had a very, very, very bad WR core last year DOESN'T mean it is prudent to let everyone go. 1/2 of the people you guys want to replace them with couldn't even beat out those very, very, very bad WRs last season in practice.

Well we both agree the past and probably current WRs will not be very good. Now would you rather pay 5-8mil more for the group we had last year? Keep in mind if you pay that money 3 years down the line we may not have enough money in the bank to sign Cam Luke or Star. Or you would be in a situation where you have to gut other members of the team to pay them.

See Cowboys - Ware or New Orleans - entire vet defense/sproles.

Personally I don't think there will be a huge difference in the offense with this New core of WRs compared to the old one.

Well apparently they did beat them out in practice. Hence why they are still here and G-man had 0 interest in overpaying our previous below-average players to stay here.

That year they had to develop on the squad will pay huge dividends this year.

Seattle is a run first, game managing, time eating machine.

By no means does that mean they are an elite offense.

The broncos have an elite offense. And Seattle won.

Defense wins championships.

I didn't say they were an elite offense, I'm just pointing out that they're better than Carolina at everything so saying they won without an elite offense isn't relevant because the panthers are not them.

Also their defense was better.

Also they're not a time eating machine they were 14th in the league in ToP.

Also they were top 10 in scoring at 26 points a game, just ahead of New Orleans.

I think we all might be able to find common ground on:

1. Cam doesn't NEED to be "consulted" with on personnel matters. Gettleman, Rivera, and Cam are grown men and have a better understanding of the team dynamics than any of us do. I'm sure they each understand one another's view of how the team should be constructed. Ultimately it's Getts decision and it's unrealistic to think he made moves with out considering the opinions of the other two.

2. We need more weapons on offense and we will most likely get more weapons on offense.

3. Nobody will have a clue how well the offseason went until mid November.
