Panthers have workout with DE Larry Webster

Can he play TE?

Mcshay mentioned this as a possibility in a recent article. Apparently he played as a goal like receiver and was great- smooth runner, soft hands, high points ball

"McShay: Bloomsburg DE Larry Webster notched 26 combined sacks the past two seasons, his only two years playing football. He was a basketball player from 2008 to '11. Then he tore up the combine, running a 4.58 40-yard dash at 6-6, 252 pounds. He could wind up as a 3-4 outside linebacker in the NFL, but I also wouldn't be stunned if he made the transition to tight end and followed in the footsteps of guys like Jordan Cameron and Julius Thomas as former basketball players turned matchup nightmares."

Our history is irrelevant before last season.

I agree. I didn't mean to make it sound like our history was relevant to us making similar mistakes... I'm just apprehensive about these guys because it's rare to find guys with that size that can develop to be every down DEs.  For a lot of these guys, they come in with a ceiling.  It's just nice to get guys that don't have certain physical limitations.  I understand that sometimes, you look at certain late round picks as situational/special teams players.  That's fine.  But it's always nice to find those late round guys that have the ability to become every down players. (Hardy is an example)

Again, I'm not saying it cant happen with guys like Webster.  You just see it less often across the board.
