Gettleman Isn't a People's Person

One thing you don't get is the fact that if the G.M. isn't a people's person then that could possibly trickle down to the players. No one wants to play for a team that disrespects players or mislead players. Football is a team sport so if the G.M. isn't building that team chemistry and team infastructure then the house could come down. Tampa Bay felt the effects from their head coach.

The man could be the best talent searcher in the world but if no one is respecting him and the players don't have confidence that the Panthers is a place they can comfortably call home, then him being a good evaluator is pointless because only old washed up players will come here for the vet minimum and potential talents will come here to strengthen their resume' for a one year deal then they will leave.

So the title's not a typo? You actually think "people's person" is a real phrase?

Oy

Might I suggest you check out the sweet, good natured guy running the New England Patriots? See he's not exactly a "people's person" either (and yet somehow players still sign there).

It's...a...business. And Gettleman is running it like one, which is what successful team's do.

Yea, anytime a coach has to sit in to make sure his boss doesn't go off topic, absolutely.

What did you get from the article?

Uuuummmm yeah. You read that totally wrong.

Here are the opening paragraphs...

It seemed a bit odd that Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera took time to listen in as general manager Dave Gettleman entertained questions from three reporters on Tuesday at the NFL owners meeting.

No other coach that I noticed did that.

So I asked Rivera why he did.

"To make sure we were staying on point," he said on Wednesday.

Rivera acknowledged then, same as he acknowledged a day earlier, with consistent nods to Gettleman's answers that they were. One of the big points was the Panthers aren't done.

Rivera isn't listening to make sure that Gettleman gets it right.  He's listening so that he knows how to respond should he be asked the same or similar questions.

It would probably help if you remember who is the boss of who in this setup.

The part that actually is funny was, he starting out being a man wanting to accept the challenge then punked out.  The pm was a punk check, and the punk checked in just like expected.

sorry dude but i've been cultivating my chi for a while now and there's no way i could release it on another human without lethal consequences. it's tough having to swallow my pride all the time and decline brazen internet challenges to fisticuffs irl but trust me when i say it's a sacrifice made for the good of humanity

Doesn't really matter. His decisions will, and this season will show them (serviceable or really bad). Last year most of the talent that took this team to the playoffs was already in place. Gettleman didn't even hire new coaches, he just promoted a few. The signings he made weren't that much of a reach for any GM. The restructures were good, but that's largely coming from the players wanting to win. His deals being mostly one season on the otherhand were dumb and have certainly hurt us this off-season, causing much of the confusion and panic of the fans.

I will always blame Gettleman about Smitty and Harper, otherwise he is doing a good job.

If Gettleman is a Draft master he can salvage the situation.

My advice would be stay focus on the Panthers biggest needs, OLine and Wrs.

BPA only can't save us, we need the best ratio BPA/Needs.

I am expecting at least 2 Olimen, and 2 Wrs, secondary needs are 1 CB, 1 safety, 1 OLB, and since we have 7 picks we have everything we need to win the next superbowl, no joke... really.

You have to be kidding me?  The one year deals that he signed last offseason were the only choice he had....and he did a fantastic job at it.

We are a cap strpped team right now....he had to plug and play bargain bin players last year.  And, the moves he made paid off big time.  He is having to do the same this year.

We had up to 7 rookies and bargain bin players starting on the defense last season....and those were directly attributed to great decisions by Gett.

We should have been a 7-9 team last season....but the moves that were made yielded 12-4 and a division title.

Please stick to eating paste....you are way out of your league on here.
