Gettleman Isn't a People's Person

And Steve is capable of that, but with his contract it didn't make sense to keep him. Also, it's been discussed ,ad nauseum, that the reason for cutting Smith was more about leadership and chemistry.

Really then why hasn't Dave addressed this like a man? Hey guys we've cut Smith because we need other players to be leaders. Smith was a problem for us, and his production did not outweight his lockeroom presence. Though I doubt that seriously since players last year were quoted time and again on how Smith were the reason they kept fighting and turned it around. Specifically I think Smith said something to the effect that he wasn't going to let anyone not do their part to win anymore.

But you said that Gettlemen's free agent acquisitions did not contribute to the 12-4 record--and now you want to re-sign them.  Which is it?

Gettlemen knows talent and he compares the talent level to the cost of the player--that is his job.  Mitchell, Munnerlyn, and GInn were overpaid.  Gettlemen walked away.  These players can be replaced.  They are role players.  You do not chase them in free agency--that is how you stay cap challenged--spending $$$ you do not have to retain average role players.

They were obvious pickups is what I stated, which is it? Mitchell, Captain, and Ginn weren't going to be "overpaid" (they're not, they're paid what they are worth, see other NFL contracts) had he had any foresight on the players he had signed to one year deals. Including the failure to sign Hardy instead of now franchising him. You're just too far up Dave's ass to realize he did in fact make mistakes, and it's why this offseason for the Panthers have been surrounded by controversy and media attention.

We do not have the cap space to pay those three expendable and replaceable players what they got elsewhere....plain and simple.

Actually we did depending how the contracts were written, especially in this off season. Keep herp-derping about it though, it's funny reading posts about our cap situation from those without a clue. Hell we were so broke we franchised Hardy, Signed Harper, Cotchery, a no name cornerback, tendered Bryon fuging bell, overpaid our kicker, and signed a few more players to boot.

Doesn't really matter. His decisions will, and this season will show them (serviceable or really bad). Last year most of the talent that took this team to the playoffs was already in place. Gettleman didn't even hire new coaches, he just promoted a few. The signings he made weren't that much of a reach for any GM. The restructures were good, but that's largely coming from the players wanting to win. His deals being mostly one season on the otherhand were dumb and have certainly hurt us this off-season, causing much of the confusion and panic of the fans.

so if gett did 3 or 4 year contracts that didn't work out you would be OK with that and wouldn't complain that he signed unproven players to contracts that were too long? Like I said, people who have made up their mind about Gett, have made up their mind about Gett. No need to debate really, because nothing is going to change your mind. Gett is in a no win situation with some of you. You refuse to give him credit for any of the teams accomplishments, while being anxious to place full blame on him for anything that you don't like as quickly as possible. Definition of NO WIN. I support him and I am glad that we finally have a football mind running our team. We will very soon be witnessing multiple winning seasons in a row. All of you who have villianized him will see. I just hope that you can admit that you were wrong when that time comes.

I just don't understand the ignorance and it is so blissfully and pathetic.  I am one that can't take dumb asses and some of the posters here make it hard to resist.  At the end of the day, you have nothing to add but your way of making someone look inept however your attempt is inept.  Good try though with your ineptness.

How do you (and so many others) have the time to defend/explain yourself so deliberately over a bad opinion on a pointless topic (like an NFL GM's "people skills") over an internet message board? Just take a break from the keyboard man.

Leave it to you to bring a colorful point of view.  No wonder it's cloudy outside with your dim witted self, lol.

I don't think the correct description for gettleman is "not a people person". I think a more accurate statement would be "not a retarded people person"

This thread isn't to make Gettleman out to be a villain,  Anybody that sees that hasn't be paying attention but going from the interpretation of others.  All I said was he doesn't keep it real at this point.  Players and fans deserve to a better way of knowing news.

A player should be the first to know where he stands, fans can deal with cuts but knifing an employee in the back has never been popular.  Had Gettleman handled the situation differently, he would not be under the scruntiny and Rivera wouldn't have to be his interview side kick to make sure he doesn't get baited into a sideways discussion.

I'd know that he's not a retarded people person because retarded people often find me disagreeable. And here you are, standing before me, just angry as the day is long that I made a comment that didn't name you specifically.
