Trading down. Smart or dumb?

K cool I was wondering why you had no confidence in this thread as if it would go over like a fart in sunday mass but with put downs like that I guess if I were you I wouldn't have confidence in any idea I came up with.

Oh, it wasn't towards anyone in particular.  Funny, you took exception to it.  Very interesting.

Gettleman's "dollar vs two dimes" analogy pretty much tells you his opinion of trading down.

there certainly wont be any dollars at pick 28. All quarters for the next 20 picks after pick 20. See if the Raiders want to trade and take a deal with them for a 3rd rounder and be done.

i wouldn't complain, especially with our huge deficit at offensive line and the incredible depth of linemen in this draft. a third-round-pick could potentially nab us a starter at tackle or guard, or quality depth at worst… that's invaluable considering our current roster.

that said we would be loathe to pass up a serious playmaking prospect at WR to do it.

I think trading down could be very vital to our success next year. If we could trade back and get a extra 3rd or 4th could answer our many needs.

Get Morgan Moses with the high 2nd round pick and best available wr that can run the complete route tree in the bottom of the 2nd.

Get CB baptiste in the 3rd and best available rt or guard with the early 4th

Bpa after that and we're golden

If a player we have highly rated falls and is there when we pick, we would be dumb to pass him up. If there is a cluster of guys available of about equal value and we have the opportunity to move down a couple of slots to get an extra pick, then it is smart.

I was thinking about it, and the holes we have at LT lack of quality starters in on the line.  Missing another receiver.  Would trading down and grabbing another 3rd or another late second be smart or dumb in our situation?

In before "I wish the offseason would end."  Or "Man, this thread sucks."  Or "thread sucks."

Not sure if any trade scenario during the draft can be predicted until the draft starts.  It all depends on who's left on the board.  I can see situations where we trade up also.....i.e if Lewan were to fall.

I think after the first 20 picks or so we might be able to predict it more accurately.
