unions coming to college ball

stirs

Recommended Posts

Umm, players have already "picketed" in recent years and didn't need a union to do so.

This isn't about banding together for unnecessary spoils, it's about unionizing for just dues, for what should be required.  It's not about weight rooms.  It's about the players getting a piece of the pie that they have created and being protected (physically) as they do it.

At this point, neither you, me or anyone else has any idea what this is going to look like.

Pay the "student athletes". Then make them pay for their education out of those earnings. Oh and btw, cultural studies of basket weaving rainforest tribes is no longer a valid major and you are expected to actually show up to legitimate classes and get a passing grade you earned for yourself. Good luck boys.

You would think that since most of them will not play at the pro level, that they would appreciate and take advantage of a free college education. Yeah, I know. fug that poo, better to make a few bucks while destroying college athletics.

+1 on minor leagues.

Leave the college athletics to true student athletes.

And yet, you posted two sarcastic comments about how the players are going to ruin the game and gouge the purity right out of college football with their demands.

If you want to be objective about it, then by all means...

I am bringing up all the possiblilities that this can of worms could open up, especially based on what other unions ask for.

I am just not seeing it as a simple Polyanna type situation.  What happens to Pro Ball when Unions and ownership are at odds?

Maybe a strike?  Or a lockout?

Just take sports out of the colleges and make them paid farm systems for the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc.

Stop calling them student athletes....because they will now just be employees

Since this is all about compensation....shouldn't they have to declare the payment of tuition and other ammenties as income/gifts. Not sure how it's done now.
