Dark horse pick for our first rounder... Mass Suicide would be had by all

We thought the same thing when we drafted Kuechly. The fact is we don't know where G-Man will go. Hell, we could go DT again. BPA is BPA in our GM's eyes.

Judging from what I've seen, Dave is thinking about the future. For example, Johnson and Davis will not be in our future. What's to stop our boys in the front office in finding a predecessor for either?

I'm not saying Shazier will indeed be our pick but I wouldn't put it past our front office in securing our front seven for a good, long decade.

I'm not convinced Johnson isn't in the plans for the future even though his contract is pretty hefty.

If he isn't, I would hope we could conduct a trade and at least get some compensation for him.

I also am not convinced his replacement isn't being groomed already. It took CJ 4 years to really come into his own as a starter and put up double digit sacks and he was the 83rd pick.

Alexander was the 103 pick and is just going into his 3rd year.....he has the build and is certainly getting some good training from a defensive HC.

If we have to pick a "linebacker" then give me Kyle Van Noy all day over shazier.

It's all about "best player available for the panthers" not just bpa. Shazier is a fine fine player, but he isn't the best player available for us. The value isn't there. First round players need to be rookie starters or extremely high impact situational players and he simply wouldn't be either. Our base is a 4-2-5 and shazier wouldn't be on the field. Gettleman says over and over that early picks must play and compete early to be worthwhile. No matter how good shazier is he would barely see the field for us. A guy like Van Noy could at least play multiple positions and be a 3rd down pass rushing rockstar. Id also take a safety like Pryor all day over a lb like shazier (not that id target either). A safety like that would have similar impact when he plays but would actually see the field.

Pryor won't be there.

I don't know anything about Van Noy, but I'm speaking in general terms about draft positions other than OT and WR- just clearing the air for general conversational purposes.

I agree your first round pick should be an immediate impact guy. Given our situation I hope we do that 3-4 times in this draft.

I doubt it why not just draft DE in next year draft after seeing what kind of season Hardy has. The top talent available for this year draft will be heavily invested on the offensive side of the ball.

I doubt we will invest in any offensive positions that the huddle wants. However, I agree that we need to see with Hardy because it's possible he doesn't match his sack total from last season and can drive his market price down to an acceptable level. I expect us to draft an OL and possibly another DT. Depth was our friend last season and we need to make sure that substitutions will help rather than hurt us.

Agreed. If CJ is a 'goner' then I hope we get something for him and we have somebody behind him who we're already grooming.

At the moment, I'd have to go with Addison as the potential replacement for Johnson. He had a strong showing when CJ went down. That said, our pass rush appeared to be less ferocious in that Patriots the moment he went out.

Personally I'd like to keep them both and still have some hungry young back ups but something will probably have to be done with his contract.

Addison played well but is going into his 7th year I was thinking more younger guys who have only been in the Panther system and are trained up how Rivera and co. want them to be.

I think we have a solid line all around and having the backups come in and get snaps with other solid players is definitely going to help their confidence and their contributions anyway so the more the merrier.

I think we're all aware that we operate a nickel-based zone scheme (4-2-5). Shazier is regarded as the best Weakside LB in this draft. Von Noy is being considered as a Strongside LB at the next level. Shazier along with T. Smith are the top cover LBs coming out of college.

So Shazier or Smith definitely make sense, especially if we're looking to unload Davis next season.

Doesn't fit with getts repeated statement that early picks must play early. Hence his suspicion of wide receivers who need years to learn the full route tree. It's not always about skill though. No chance Davis is cut this year. Thus shazier just wouldn't play enough to fit into getts statement that early picks must play early.
