Cyrus Kouandjio..... WHY?

Recommended Posts

I'm not big on Bama players in general at the next level, so combined with his Otah knee (whether smokescreen or not), I would pass. I'm okay with him not having the best combine and 1 bad game can be magnified, though it might throw up a red flag, but the knee scares me.

Bama sure has the bad rap on this. Not sure, with all the damm rules, that Saban can do much different from other coaches. Why do his playerz seem to have a hard time transitioning?

Other than that, and if his knee was just another smokescreen, he could wind up being a really good Tackle. So if you think the value is there, you draft him. Whether that is us? But some team will see that value, and take the chance.

He didn't participate in his pro day. That is a MAJOR flag, why not redo the drills you did HORRIBLY at the combine? He is Jeff Otah 2.0.

Good question. I see 2 possible reasons. 1. he is lazy. 2. He is taking some time to reboot before he gets ready for his second pro day. Hopefully.

Hard to see anybody being lazy and plyaing for Saban. And him resting before his second pro day is just a guess. But IF he can be healthy, he can be a pretty good Tackle. If he wants to remain a 1st or 2nd round pick. It may behoove hime to have a productive pro day.

Either way, it is a tad premature to be using the Otah 2.0 reference.

he is a enigma. he was my fav draft pick for the panthers at the start of panther off season. early on he was top 15 lock it seemed. 2nd rated OT after Matthews on most peoples ranks. then the terrible bowl, which i was happy for cause it put hope in making it to 28th. next compared to his peers, terrible combine. then reports of knee issues, whoa that was it for me. i could forgive the bowl game and combine, not a bum knee.

then ligament god and bama god came out and said the reports of his where 100% false. then he didnt workout at bama pro-day, and didnt give a reason or fake injury claim. nick also said he wasnt a 1st rounder a year ago, theres that too. plus it seems bama players are getting a bad rep after leaving school. so im confused with his whole deal. if hes a 100% healthy, will not go mcclain, or get lazy..... well hes in play for me(1st or 2nd), i guess.

My stance right now is this I don't like him due to his knee issues, it poses a big enough red flag for me to not want him in the first round. Second round would be fine...if he were to fall that far which I can't see happening.

However, if our medical staff clears him and DG feels he's the guy at 28 then I'm fully on board and one of his biggest fans. I want a franchise LT, badly.

The poor combine, in the grand scheme of things, doesn't mean a lot to me, his game tape does. I like his size, strength and agility and think he could start at LT from the onset if called upon.

Why do you even comment? I asked a simple question?  I wanted to know everyone's opinion on this guy.  This guy was a player that lost a lot of ground during the combine.

Yes, but it is a mock draft. If there was somehow a way to know the team had real interest in him than it's an interesting discussion. However, it's a guy in the media throwing something together to generate content. The answer to your question is that it's just a mock draft plugging a player into a hole we have to fill. They aren't doing serious analysis of every guy and the teams who may take them.

Because somehow these fools get paid to be nowhere remotely close to accurate and it pisses us off a little that we aren't getting a fat check for making up some BS.

I would think there are a lot of people here who get paid for BS. It's the way this country works.

At #28, I just want the best starter still available. How many starters are available at each position is hard to pin down without having a guy in training camp and competing with other NFL starters.

At #28, we are going to be looking at players ranked down the line for each position, depending on which position they play. For instance, we could be looking at the 4th or 5th best player at a position of need such as WR, DB or OT...but there could be players who rank at or near the top of tier class at positions such as TE, OG, ILB, C, or maybe even OLB. That's when it becomes overall value or BPA over simply BPA at a position of need. Do you draft a guy that you know can step in if an injury were to occur or that may make an already starting player at a higher pay rate expendable or tradable?

What is certain, is that it would be easier to find a player capable of competing and possibly winning a starting spot based on personnel and depth at a given position. For us, it would be easier I win a starting spot along the line, at wideout and at DB. So what we are really looking at is value of the player picked with the highest probability of getting a return on a player based on salary tendered.

All this seems like common sense and I don't mean to ramble-on about things that seem so obvious. But If I new a player with a mid-second round draft projection was good enough and healthy enough to compete along the line, I'd draft him, even though it may look like a reach because of his projected draft-grade. Better to get a sure-thing than to miss out totally.

I'd rather reach and get a guy that I know can compete for a starting spot, than to simply draft a high-ceiling guy with injury or durability concerns.

To add on to what you are saying, I think it is best to look at it like "draft a guy you will have an immediate impact AND someone you see having a successful career." Not someone who can start and be a marginal upgrade for 1 or 2 seasons and then needs to be replaced.

Sometimes the combine can be over rated. You ALWAYS go with the tape over combine numbers. And with that said Cyrus is one of the top OT's in the draft class *if healthy*.

Personally, id prefer Turner out of all the possible LT's we could get. But Cyrus would be next on the list if he stays healthy.
