Cyrus Kouandjio..... WHY?

Recommended Posts

You don't draft a guy in the first round that "MIGHT BE GOOD".   They have to be good.

2nd or 3rd sure but not the 1st round.

We did that with Cam Newton. It worked out. There are probably 10 or more first round picks that fall into the high upside/risk portion of players. Sure things are normally gone after the first several picks, and some first overall selections, like Cam or Sam Bradford, can go either way. Sorry, but at the bottom of the first round you can either take mediocre sure thing or gamble on a prospect with a couple flaws.

Here is what I have heard/read about Cyrus:

he will not be a first rounder unless his knee checks out.  I doubt that happens.  For big men and horses, you eventually shoot them in what should be their primes.  However, some scouts are saying that he has second-round value because they think they might be able to squeeze 6-8 years out of him.  To me, that is foolish. If he plays 4 years and you know his knee is bad, are you going to pay him what he wants for a second contract?

NIck Saban was a bit surprised that he was being considered for a first round pick when he was asked about it a few months ago.

After the Otah incident, I do not see us taking a big T with a knee issue.  I am guessing that we draft a Turner or Hurst or Thomas.

I really think they are seriously considering Bell at LT.  And from what I have read, he is a better fit at LT than he is at RT--something I have never really heard before.  We shall see.  I am praying that they know something I don't.

You are in the minority if you thought he might be good.   I didn't doubt his questionable ethics like many others did.  That seemed to be more of the issue then Cam ability to play.

He came from a spread offense and played one year of major college football. Cam was not a sure thing. That's why we basically begged andrew luck to come out. Sam Bradford was coming off two shoulder injuries and played in a spread offense, and he still somehow went first overall.

If you want go strictly tackle, three offensive tackles went high last year, and all of them struggled and have question marks this year. None of those guys may work out and they were far more of a "sure thing" than anything we will get at our pick this year.

Draft's a gamble is what I'm saying. Cyrus has a chance to be good. And if gettleman evaluates him and takes him, I will be pretty happy with it.

Is he knee really that bad? Dr. Andrews said he was good. That's enough for me unless I'm missing something. Correct me if I'm wrong

Dr. Andrews is Alabama's team doctor. It's in his best interest to say he was good to go. This is not a pick we need to make. We better go skill position in the first. It's time Cam had some real weapons.

Cam showed he had all the tools to be an NFL QB whether it was the spread offense or pro style.

The questions were ability to read NFL Defense, progression and so forth.

Comparing Cam and Cyrus is like comparing night and day.   Cam showed he had all the tools during his workouts.  So far Cyrus has not impressed anyone.

If Gettleman were to pick him, I would be onboard because I trust his talent evaluation.  Based on what he has done in the past.  Cyrus won't hold up an Panther Jersey in the first round.

Dr Andrews is associated with a lot of teams. He did marcus lattimore's acl surgery, matt rolin's from florida and a lot of other high profile athletes as well. I highly doubt he would jeopordize his professional integrity just so a player would get drafted high. He is the best at what he does period.

Cyrus has the physical talent to be a "hog molly" that gettleman might want. I have no idea about the knee concerns, but Star supposedly had heart concerns that were overblown. It's almost impossible to discern between people blowing smoke and telling the truth at this time of year. I could see the panthers puling the trigger on him.

I know he is but he is not going to jeopardize future clients by lying. I agree cam needs weapon but if that knee is clear he is probably going to be to good to pass up
