Merril Hoge: Clowney has very poor football skills; Khalil Mack best defensive prospect I've ever seen

I understand that Mack is considered more NFL ready and numbers only mean so much but....

 

Anthony Barr 41.5 TFL 23.5 sacks 10FF last 2 seasons.

Khalil Mack 40 TFL 18.5 sacks 9 FF last 2 seasons.

 

Khalil Mack pro day 40: 4.53

Anthony Barr pro day 40: 4.44

 

Mack had more int's and benched 23 reps opposed to Barr's 19.

Anthony Barr put up these numbers in against much tougher competition and in his first two years at linebacker.

 

Don't understand how he is considered by some as the best player in the draft while Barr isn't even top 10. Barr will only get better. And yes, I'm UCLA biased.

If he is saying clowney is not a complete player I agree. That tailered with his taking off plays are a concern. I would not take him at one because of that but he will be a monster on situational downs.

Willis? Kuechly is the GOAT through 2 seasons. Willis, Bowman, and Beason are old school. Alonzo and a Kuechly are the new world order.

I see where Hoge is coming from but to say he won't/can't change is a little over the top. He just needs some good coaching and motivation to get him to an elite status. The thing is Clowney has never needed to do certain things because he's such a freak.

He isn't going to drop to us but I'll take him over Mack any day.

 

Barr isn't even close to Mack. More athletic yes, but nowhere near the football IQ or effort. I can see Barr being a huge bust.
