My take is this- IF he applies himself he can be an elite defender, but his reliance on just his athleticism won't be enough in the NFL and half-assing certainly won't cut it.

He has all the potential in the world, doesn't mean squat if he doesn't take advantage of it.

I didn't think he meant to discredit Mack at all but compare how Clowney would look as a prospect against lower level competition.

Clowney does not only really on athleticism. He has well developed pass rush skills which combined with his freakish athleticism has made him to be so highly regarded(by most anyway) He also has worked hard on his game since entering college.

To say he has no football skills is absolutely ridiculous.
