This year Cam will reach uncharted territory.. This will truly be his team and his locker room.  I think he's ready

I'm not a Cam hater by any means but I must ask, why? serious question! everyone "thinks" this but what is it based on?

You can keep dreaming about that. He and his agent will and should go for the max because the CBA screwed his class and the following rookies. Cam made almost 50 million dollar less than Sam Bradford in his first years, and you think that his agent will play nice.

It means nothing to me so there's nothing to keep dreaming about.  But Cam may not be as short-sighted as you.  He's already made millions in endorsement deals and if he becomes the entertainer/icon he aspires to be then championships will make him wealthy all the same.

If it were to happen, Cam is as good of a candidate as any.

but it's whatever..

Ding ding ding!

From Newton to Luck to Dalton to Kaepernick (especially) to Wilson (especially) to Tannehill to RGIII. Those teams better be prepared to get raped by their agents. For the most part these rookies were a bargain. It is going be time for their teams to pay up.

Stafford and Cutler and Ryan and Romo have individually made over a 100 million dollars for doing far less than most of the former.

I am sure Newton will try not to take it too far but Newton will demand to be paid at least market value. And by the time the increase in salary cap hits and QBs like Luck being paid, God only knows what market value will be at that time.

again, the question is what makes him ready to be the leader? what is that based on? is this based on SS being gone?

You brought it into question, why not elaborate on why you feel this way?

Steve Smith wasn't going to be here forever regardless.

I don't think Cam has to be "the leader", he will be one of several. His teammates speak highly of him, he's extremely competitive, he hates losing, he has proven time and time again that he is willing to put the team on his back if he has to. I have no reason to believe that he will not be able to take on the role.

Anyone who thinks Cam will give any kind of "discount" is kidding themselves.

These guys are NOT fans.....this is all business with them.

Cam will try and get the max contract he can.....as well he should.

I have to agree

It's his agent's job to get Cam as much as he can. If any "help" were to happen it would be up to Cam. I don't expect that; and it shouldn't be expected of him. I expect he wants to earn as much as he can just like anyone else in his position.

Cam at $20 million is a heck of a lot better deal than Hardy or Johnson at $13m.

A. They don't know Cam

B. There's an option for us to keep him into year 5

C. Coming off ankle surgery I think it's prudent to wait

D. With Gross and Smith out, the locker room is his, what will he do with it?

I think it's very smart to not sign Cam now, evaluate beyond this season and continue to fix the cap.

Not sure if waiting to sign Cam has anything to do with evaluating him,  whether it be on the field or in the locker room.   We just don't have the cap space.             Cam will get paid a LOT.      In his first 3 years in the league,  he is averaging 4,400+ total yards, 30 TD a year.   I think he gets a contract that will average out to him making around $22M a year.   Something that just isn't really possible for us to hand out right now.
