Draft Discussion

yeah but their are quarters in the 2nd round as well, which is only a few spots away, if they were in 14 I would say draft there, but 28th and the 2nd round isnt much difference

I agree with that. One possible advantage would be to really weigh how things went in the first and get to re-evaluate.

I'd still rather stay put.

How I see our needs....

Starters:
WR - Literally Jerricho Cotchery and Tiquan Underwood
OT - No starting LT atm and Byron Bell is very low on the RT rankings

CB - Cason is a one year deal... White, Thomas, Dockery, and Norman aren't exactly lighting it up out there

Rotational/Fringe Starters:

FS - Gettleman is noncommittal on Godfrey and his backup is Colin Jones who is ST only

OG - Silatolu is a lock, but Scott, Williams, Kugbila are all low-end starters at the moment

TE - Brandon Williams is a flop, Mike McNeill is a blocker only

DT - Dwan Edwards is old/in last year of deal, only DT on roster besides Star and Short

Depth:
C - Jeff Byers and Geoff Hangartner retiring leaves practice squadder Brian Folkers as backup...
LB - Blackburn in last year of deal/is old, Klein will step up next year, only Jason Williams left as a backup after that...

Things we definitely don't need to worry about:

QB - Cam is about to get his extension and Derek Anderson is fine

RB - Handcuffed to Double Trouble this year, Tolbert is a beast, Barner deserves some better looks

DE - Two top ten DEs, Addison/Alexander/Horton are solid rotational players

SS - Roman Harper and Robert Lester look like a decent rotation going forward

K/P - Gano and Nortman were one of the best kicking duos last season

Looking at the draft board and various mock drafts this is what I see:

We are definitely in a sweet spot for drafting a WR ie Cooks Benjamin,Beckham .One of those guys will be there

If Kyle fuller drops that would be compelling and Verrett should be there .

At tackle I would love to see Zack Martin drop but doubt it would happen. Moses sounds like he would be a starter at right tackle ,Cyrus is an option I have seen but I do not have a clue where he will graded by teams given his knee injury.

We have some pretty good options though most tier one players are gone

I think if Morgan Moses is available at 28, we will take him. I'm pretty sure he will be. We need to draft a WR or TE in the first 3 rounds who can put up 400-500 yards for the season. If we get that, We have upgraded the passing attack.

Everything I have read is that he is a rt tackle but that begs the question of what we do at LT

I think they might actually go with BB at LT believe it or not. If either Jake Mathews, Greg Robinson, Taylor Lewan or Zack Martin drop to 28, I'm pretty sure Gettleman would be doing back flips in the war room. Laugh You're right that MM is a RT but he'll be pretty darn good at RT. He's a powerful run blocker who isn't a complete liability in pass pro. He played LT this past year at UVA but yeah the scouting community doesn't think he can cut it at LT in the NFL.

Odell Beckham would totally replace Tedd Ginn with his playmaking speed, better hands and route tree skills.

I am starting to warm up to him over Cooks bc of his great return ability and playing and succeeding in the SEC which is typically not as pass happy as the Big 12 shows better toughness to me.

Odell or Cooks unless a guy like Lewan or Ebron falls inexplicably.

1st David Yankey Guard

2nd Antonio Richardson Tackle

3rd Austin Seferian-Jenkins Tight end

4th Victor Hampton Cornerback

I would be happy with that. Not guessing past the fourth round. Blast away!

ASF will not be there at 3.28 but treating the WR position like Hurney did the DT position is not a good idea.

Gettleman was instermental in the Giant philosophy of draft playmakers and D line high..develop OL with later round guys.

Not saying this will be Gettles total philosophy here but with seemingly one real proven NFL wr on the roster Id err on WR.
