Panthers meeting with Brandin Cooks

Benjamin's speed is more than adequate when you consider his size and athleticism, so that doesn't concern me. What does concern me is his focus drops and route running, however both can be taught and refined.

As much as I like Matthews I still can't see him as the better overall prospect compared to Benjamin because KB has such a high ceiling. Matthews would be the safer, less dynamic pick, IMO.

Dez Bryant ran a 4.51

Brandon Marshall at 4.52

Kelvin Benjamin at 4.52

Where did you get the 4.52 40 for Benjamin?  At the combine he ran an official 4.61, and didn't run at his pro day.

Benjamin has the athletic build to be one the best in the game. But, he lacks speed & displays butter fingers too often.

Cooks has the speed & great hands but lacks size.

Jordan Matthews has it ALL imo. I say if he's there @ 28, TAKE HIM. But if only Benjamin & Cooks are there to choose from then I'd have to go with......................still deciding.

Matthews scares me a bit.  Without question, he has a lot of really good traits for a WR.  But, while he does have good speed, he has to build up to it.  As a result, he doesn't get off the line and into his route very quickly, which will be an issue at the NFL level.  Also, he is not particularly explosive, so doesn't get into and out of his cuts as well as some other guys, which is one reason he doesn't get a lot of separation.  Although I think he will be a good pro, I'm not sure he'll ever be a true #1 in the NFL.  And that's what I'm looking for in any receiver we take at #28.  To me, he is a 2nd round value, and likely destined to be a #2 receiver...solid and dependable, but not dominating.

There is a lot to like about Benjamin, and although I have never been one to put too much stock in 40 times, this did concern me:

...since 1999, the only receivers to run an official 40 time at the combine slower than 4.65 and post top 30 fantasy seasons are Micheal Clayton and Anquan Boldin, and Boldin is the only receiver to do it more than once.

you may be right. I actually wasnt that impressed with him until after watching his highlight for about the 3rd time. But I jus came to the conclusion that his style is quite plain may never blow you away. He doesn't have to jump 6 ft in the air to catch the ball like Cooks or be big like Benjamin to get the job done but he does. Just doesn't look as fancy doing it. & his speed is decent enough imo. Apparently he ran a slightly better 40 than Alshon Jeffery so that works for me
