Panthers meeting with Brandin Cooks

I've said it since the first mock draft... he will not be there at 28. If we want him, we need to find a way to move up a few spots.

Not worth it, IMO. Too many guys in the third tier to choose from.

Tier 1. Watkins

Tier 2. Evans

Tier 3. Cooks, OBJ, Benjamin, Matthews, Robinson, Lee, others

Meh... Electric, but I'd rather have a 6-4+, jump ball kind of guy.

I would too.  But we have to remember our offense and our QB.  Not knocking Cam at all here but he is more of a play action guy with a cannon who needs to be able to chuck it and let somebody run under it.  He's not really a touch guy yet.  To properly utilize a big dude you need somebody who can consistently make that touch back shoulder throw.

I trust Cam with a scrappy "get it anywhere close to me in play action where I just broke coverage" guy more than with a cyborg that requires precision throws in traffic from under pressure.

That said, I'm not sure that Cooks is that scrappy guy.  He may be.

The more I read, the more I question whether he makes it to our pick.

That said, they're wise to do the homework on him just in case he does.

I don't think his film looks that great to be honest compared to some other receivers coming out this year....but he is super fast.

IGettleman said "big men win games."   Benjamin fits that mold, and he also offers a skill set none of our other receivers do.

Guess you missed the part where Gettlemen talked about NFL ready players and getting them on the field to contribute immediately.....completely opposite of Benjamin.  He is raw and needs time to learn to run a complete route tree.

Benjamin is unlikely to be the pick.

He might no be....who knows.  There are logical reasons on both sides of the argument.   It probably comes down to the interview process.  Benjamin has a ton of upside and he'll be working with Ricky Proehl.   Benjamin has the ability to be a huge redzone threat for us his rookie year.   His 20 to 20 game will only improve.

Who said KB can't run the route tree? You don't think he could contribute right away? I do, instantly becomes out top Red Zone threat.

I like the idea of Benjamin the best.  He is the one I would put in the showroom personally.  But if there is something to getting a guy they think will have a more immediate impact and work out better with Cam, then I tend to agree.

Think about how many times Cam is gonna 5 step or 7 step and drill a deep out to the back shoulder compared to how many times he is gonna scramble and create and need to find a guy who breaks coverage.  If this speedster is tough enough he can become exactly what this offense needs in spite of the shiny prototypes coming out this year.

I really trust Gettleman and staff to not only evaluate the talent but factor how it will mesh and contribute with our current roster, OC, and typical game plan.
