You're right, Steve only cares about Steve. It's not like he contributed heavily in the thankless area of run blocking, volunteered to return punts in 2010 despite injury risk, contributed heavily to charities or washed the feet of the homeless.

You're right, Steve only cares about Steve. It's not like he contributed heavily in the thankless area of run blocking, volunteered to return punts in 2010 despite injury risk, contributed heavily to charities or washed the feet of the homeless.

 

Run blocking and returning punts is his job. Being willing to do what is asked of you when your salary is stratospheric compared to more important professions is not laudable in the slightest.

 

And while his charitable work is commendable, it's not as if he donating his skills to the Panthers.

This is the last post I make is this thread.

 

I'm going to offer  view point that I haven't seen mentioned.

 

If ANY of you guys have been fans long enough, you will know that Steve Smith and Jerry Richardson are very close. Almost a Father/Son relationship.

 

If Richardson wanted Smitty given special treatment before/while being cut, I promise you he would have directed his GM to do so. 

Steve Smith was wanted out of the building by more than just Gettleman. He is just the scape goat.

 

 

Many of you feel he didn't get the treatment of Gross. .Here is he difference. 

 

Gross, retired.

 

Smitty's career is still on going. 

 

No team is going to put on a big show when releasing a player, even a fan favorite.  I promise you, Smitty will sign a 1 day contract someday to retire a Panther. When he does, there will probably much more fan fair than what Gross received.

 

It's two completely different situations, that can't be compared.

Loved his fire as a Panther, but.. If I play, coach, or cheer for the Baltimore Ravens I'm ready for him to STFU and act like a Raven. These tweets and ad in the paper... "all eyez on me"

Smith carried this offense on his back for over a decade. He wants to take a step back for years, but instead gets thrown out because he isn't able to do it anymore.

 

I hope we don't do this to Cam.

The Panthers don't owe Smitty crap.  They've treated him well.  They drafted him.  They paid to keep him.  Steve has a great life thanks to the Panthers.  So after 13 years the organization goes a different way and all of a sudden they treated Smith bad? lol

 

 

I think Smitty's anger problem has been compounded by concussions and it's starting to rear itself as he's getting older.
