Cotchery/Underwood > LaFell/Ginn

I have to disagree with you Panthro if in spirit if nothing else. If Cotchery is better than LaFell, it sure isn't by much. And I think Underwood and Ginn are very, very similar players. Now when you consider that we were already one of the worst in the league last year at receiver, the only possible rookie receiver that comes in and gives us better production than Smitty right away is Sammy Watkins. If we draft Cooks, I would have had rather had Smith, LaFell, and Ginn over Cooks, Cotchery, and Underwood...at least in 2014. So unless we're trading for Watkins, you're still looking at a best case scenario where we're worse at receiver than we were in 2013...when we were already pretty bad.

We shouldn't be debating whether or not this year's corp has a small chance at being better than last year's poor crew. With the strength in the varying options for improving the position this offseason, there was no excuse for us not to make significant strides at that spot this year.

Again, Panther fans are debating if we can assemble a team to rival last year's squads while other franchises such as our division rivals work to improve theirs.

Ginn is a much more competent receiver. Underwood hasn't even reached 500 yards in a season yet, Ginn has done that multiple times.

By "multiple" you mean two? :p underwood had 420+ yards in 12 and 14 games.  He's not far off from Ginn's production at all... and that's with FAR worse QBs throwing him the ball!

Ginn did well here last year, but before that he had one year above 500 yards and couldn't even crack the field for the 9ers, really

Sorry if this has been posted:

Underwood in 4 years before becoming a Panther:

42 games, 63 receptions, 1006 yards, 16.0 YPC, 6 TDs

Ginn in 4 years before becoming a Panther:

56 games, 71 receptions, 838 yards, ~12 ypc, 2 TDs

(Note: HIs most prolific WR years were before this as a Dolphin, but still)

edit: Ginn's 6 years before becomin a panther:

88 games, 161 receptions, 2048 yards, 12.7 YPC, 6 TDs

I'd say we have a chance of filling Ginn's spot pretty well with Underwood.  Excellent signing, Gettles.

Cason is a step up at CB.

We have holes before the draft, but realistically we can come out of the draft overall quite a bit better than we did entering the offseason (depending on how we handle safety).

We were going to have trouble keeping all those FAs, and Mitchell and Ginn earned big money contracts elsewhere we had no chance of matching.

Ginn Jr. played like the #2ish WR we didn't expect last year. With the way our Offense is structured, he had pretty good year. Throw in his return ability, and he had tremendous value for us.

I just don't see Underwood having anywhere near that value. Unless he improves dramatically, he will be a 3-4 WR at best. Which can still contribute, but no where near what Teddy gave us.

Maybe with Ricky and Cotchery he can get coached up. If so, the potential is there for some exciting plays. I can live with that.

Now we just replace the slower aging Smith with a play maker in the draft and our WR core is better than it was in 2013.

You all just needed to let Gettleman do his job.
