Carolina Panthers Sign Tiquan Underwood

Underwood has some promise and can return kicks as well. I think he's a good signing considering the cost. Hopefully he can be an effective piece of the puzzle. He's a good athlete and was both the starting QB and the starting point guard for his high school team.

Acting like he's a bust is ridiculous. Any 7th round pick who can stick around and get playing time for 5 seasons has to be counted as a success.

Agree with most of that.  Underwood can definitely contribute in his role.  Only part I disagree with is the returning kicks.  He's not a return man.  Or I should say he wouldn't be a good return man.

What needs to be understood is that speed isn't the end all be all in the NFL.  Players like Percy Harvin aren't good in their roles because they are fast.  They are good because they can accelerate quickly and change direction without losing speed.  Again, that is not Tiquan.  He has very good straight line speed but he isn't quick, he is a long strider so he doesn't accelerate or change direction quickly either.  He would not be a dynamic return man.

I think we have been too used to watching Hurney fail in FA to have anything but this attitude towards a players past.  I'm hoping the key to having Gettleman on board opens up our possibilities as last year has shown.

Hurney managed to find a few diamonds in the rough, Jake Delhomme being the most obvious one.  I just think that more often than not, if a player doesn't succeed in once place, he is not going to succeed in another.  Not that we shouldn't try to find them.  We certainly should, especially with our salary cap problems.

Yeah and its good business if you can spot them consistently. Lucas was a decent find for 1 really good year but more often than not we were always holding out hoping ones past carried over into the future, which left much to be desired and didn't help us build a consistent winner.

Keyshawn was another, regardless of what people think, he was our best #2 not named Muhsin.

So, we're going to be a speedy offense?

Think about this. D-Will has speed. Stewart has some if he gets some open field and can get north. Barner is in the same boat as Stew. Cotchery. Now Underwood. Probably draft a speedy WR or two. Olsen is one of the faster TEs, IIRC.

Boys and girls....this JUST might work out after all....

If they get Desean Jackson to head up that WR corp..talk about speed, that WR group just became a strength.

btw, this signing does nothing for me. signing JAGs (and thats being generous here) isn't going to cut it.

someone tell me why this is a solid signing and not just roster filler.

if we're wise he's nothing more than a bubble player.

Buc fans on a Buc forum are having a good laugh at us:

-"Tiquan is visiting the Panthers today. This could be the all-time worst list of WR's ever (at least before the draft) #1 Jerricho McCotchery, #2 Tiquan Underwood, #3 Charlie Tweeder from West Canaan High School (let's see who gets the reference)"

-"BWahahahaha!"

-"Panthers new WR group is certainly impressive....BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

-"If Underwood signs with Carolina, I feel confident we could bench Verner and Banks and still blanket cover their entire corps."

Average Bucs fan has the intellect and football knowledge of a prepubescent little girl.

("At Rutgers as a junior,Tiquan Underwood, together with teammate Kenny Britt, was part of the first receiver tandem in Big East history to post simultaneous 1,000-yard seasons, as he finished with 1,100 yards on 65 receptions")

It would be nice to be able to sign Kenny Britt and have him team up with Tiquan Underwood, his old Rutgers teammate again. Seems they were a dynamic duo..
