Carolina Panthers Sign Tiquan Underwood

I see what you mean.  Like Mike Mitchell and Ted Ginn last year.

No, nothing like those two.  Ginn was pretty much the same for us as he was in Miami.  And Mitchell played 45 of 48 games his last 3 years and showed enough at Oakland for us to realize there was some potential there.  Neither of those two really compares to Underwood.  A much better example would be a guy like Willie Green, who had a couple of so so years with Detroit, a bad one with Tampa, but came to us and became our most reliable receiver for the two years he was here.

Underwood has been cut several times.  He has speed and size, but so did Drew Carter.  As I said, it could work out for us because there are always exceptions and obviously the front office thinks there is some possibility, but for every player that a change of scenery helps, there are 10 Drew Carters, Keary Colbert's, David Carr's etc.... who move to another team and fail just as bad as they did for their previous team.

But I hope he becomes a great player and has a long and productive career with us.

That's a good signing, Underwood was Glennon's security blanket last year. I remember seeing him make a lot of big catches and plays for TB.

Tim Wright was the security blanket.  Tiquan Underwood was about the furthest thing from a security blanket.  Had a couple solid games but again, he is not a short yardage, underneath receiver nor is he a volume receiver.

So, we're going to be a speedy offense?

Think about this. D-Will has speed. Stewart has some if he gets some open field and can get north. Barner is in the same boat as Stew. Cotchery. Now Underwood. Probably draft a speedy WR or two. Olsen is one of the faster TEs, IIRC.

Boys and girls....this JUST might work out after all....

Because most of the time, what a player has done in the past is an indication of what he will do in the future.  There are exceptions of course, but for the most part its true.

Not that I am against the signing, especially since we aren't spending a lot.

I think we have been too used to watching Hurney fail in FA to have anything but this attitude towards a players past.  I'm hoping the key to having Gettleman on board opens up our possibilities as last year has shown.

Maybe, but I doubt a good coach and QB are going to fix his long stride, stiff hips, or lack of short area quickness.  I think he just is what he is, a possible vertical threat.
