Why has Hardy not be signed to a long term contract?

He's due $13mil.....

If he's smart he won't sign. That's a lot of money. He'll ball out again & get an insane contract next year.

I've thought about this as well. Honestly, we might as well tag him again because 13 million isn't so bad when you look at CJs contract and we could draft a DE to bring along in the event Hardy is gone...BPA

He is elite, no doubt. The best RE in the league and that's no bs. People can say what they want about his sack totals but that paints a small picture. And those huge games were the ones that we locked-up the division, so it was quite important in the grand-scheme of the season.

Anyone that says he's overrated are a bunch of haters, cut-and-dry.

Wouldnt shock me if the plan is to leave him tendered this season, cut CJ after this season and sign Hardy to a big deal with CJs money. Of course that depends on how Hardy and CJ play this season but, unless CJ is cool with a big pay cut, this could be the last year we have both of them.

I understand that but would it not be to our advantage to make this happen now?

You could argue either way.

If he gets 8 sacks this year, was he worth it, or would you rather negotiate at the end of 2014?  Buy low, sell high.  Sorta like the gamble the Ravens took with Flacco that backfired-

Hardy could be emerging as a great player--he and his agent want to be paid on that scale--but his overall body of work does not suggest it.  Jared Allen has averaged 12 sacks per year over his career--Hardy passed that once--the year he wants to get paid.

I think the idea is to keep him on the line if he refuses a long term deal.  I would be surprised with Peppers money.  With Cam's deal on the horizon, don't expect Gettlemen to be making any $60 million mistakes.

Hardy was considered damaged goods and needed time to catch back up with his weight training and conditioning. Add into that a crappy Panthers team and his transition into the NFL and yeah, it took some time to get back to his projected 1st-round billing that was tabbed on him after his freshman year at OleMiss.

It's pretty fair to say that you can take his first season and a Hal with a grain if salt and you ain't fooling nobody with the hard-line of "well, you had a rough first season, so we are skeptical of your possible contributions in the future."

That's some bs, man. It is a disgrace comparing Hardy to Flacco and no, we haven't seen anything close to the eventual peak of Hardy's potential and career.

Comparing Hardy to Allen is a disgrace as well...especially considering Allen is on the slippery slope of the downhill grade of his career. Peppers too.

Hardy is basically a carbon copy of Peppers in his prime and Hardy is much better in rush defense as I'm concerned. Hardy doesn't take plays off and is a leader on the field and off, something J pep had a tough time embracing as a duty.

Hardy ain't gonna come cheap and a team would be abou as stupid as a soup-sandwich to undervalue him, disrespect him or let him walk away. Laughingstock

Its all just speculation, but I can give a good guess.

Its all about keeping options open. Why make something set in stone when you can keep that window open for while, and have the potential to make a really good deal. What I mean by this is a trade. Someone could offer us some crazy, awesome trade that would be impossible to turn down.

Not saying that is our plan, but again the idea is to keep as many options available as possible. Crazy poo happens on draft day, or when teams get despirate torwards camp. I do believe Gettleman thinks Hardy is indeed part of the puzzle and wants to keep him long term, or else he wouldn't have made the cap commitment this season.

Its March man, no rush. My understanding is that we can go over the cap, as long as it is under by a certain date?

Yea I see where you are coming from .

I am not sure that a 13 million opportunity cost is worth it given our needs at LT, DB, and WR  is worth it  for one year of service but that is well above my pay grade.

He was not comparing players but rather situations
